Posted By: Steve F
it's an original?

PCL All-Stars team photo in Oct, 1924. Seattle Post-Intelligencer sponsored this event.

*Barnstorming, the Bambino traveled to Seattle for an exhibition game on Oct. 19, 1924, accompanied by New York Yankees teammate Bob Meusel. Each played with a local all-star team of semipro players in a contest sponsored by the P-I. Ruth batted fourth and ninth in the lineup to maximize his plate appearances.

With 9,000 people whipped in a frenzy, Ruth hit three homers over the rightfield fence. The first cleared a gas station, the third and longest landed in a carrot patch. In all, Ruth had four hits in nine trips, scoring three times and driving in six runs.

Ruth further endeared himself to the locals by visiting Children's Orthopedic Hospital; sending a congratulatory telegram to the Seattle Siwashes, who had clinched their league championship on the road; and tossing autographed baseballs into a crowd from the downtown roof of the P-I.*

Not a frequently reproduced image for sure (I'd never seen one). But what is the consensus on this photo being an original 8x10, with such a large, blank bottom border? Which I imagine was intended for team roster text. The photo only, not the phoney auto. that I believe is simply the collectors note but likely the red flag that caused the lack of interest. Thanks for looking, Steve F

Posted By: D. Bergin
My first impression is it appears to be a 2nd generation print.......maybe c. 1950's or so. The large bottom border indicates to me they just lacked cropping/centering tools when creating the print on standard 8x10 paper.

Does not look like 1920's to me, though I very well could be wrong.

Might possibly be from original neg. but impossible to tell from those pictures.

Posted By: Steve F
Dave, Dan good call. Just got it. Clean, bright Kodak paper and a blurred, pixelated image -a reprint for sure. I didn't even bother with the black light.

Too bad, it's a great subject. Ruth looks beat up (from partying).
