Posted By: Chris
Posted this on the GUU site..but haven't heard much back...hoping for some help.

This looks to be a Seattle Rainers jersey. Solid construction, talon zipper, lined collar and button placket, silky durene type material. Sewn on tackle twill logo and numbering . Russell-Southern collar tag with the size too faded to make out.

Couldn't find a photo of this style of jersey in my on line searches. Looks too well made to be a store model.

Any help would be appreciated!

Posted By: leon
I am a little surprised you haven't gotten much help at all. I guess no one really collects them too much, at least on this board? I don't know if you have emailed Mark Macrae but he might know something about it. I just don't know if he does uniforms too much though. Wish I could help but I am mainly a card person.....best regards

Posted By: leon
Here is a little more help. We have many lurkers on Net54 who don't really wish to get into the public fray but are very generous with their knowledge otherwise. I can't say who sent me this info but I respect his opinion very much....

"(Suggest) the Sumner book "Minor League Baseball Standings" that came out about ten years ago. It lists hundreds of Leagues and thousands of teams going back more than 100 years. It will start to give him an idea that there is more than one team that wore "S" on their jersey.... That jersey was never in the PCL, even as a tryout / warmup..."

Hope this helps a little bit and sorry for the disappointment in that it's probably not an authentic PCL jersey. Maybe it's some other type?...best regards
Posted By: davidcycleback
Considering it could be a high school or other jersey, I would think you'd want to start by find a photo match of the style. If the you find a style match, could can then work from there. If you never find a style match, that might be your right there. I'm sure there are books on the Rainiers baeball.

When people don't respond to a post, that usually means no one has an answer or good speculation. I have no idea what team the jersey belongs to, so didn't post to express my ignorance.

I'm no PCL or game used expert, but did once have a 1930s Pro Model Portland PCL baseball cap from the Estate Auction of Babe Herman. Herman played for the 1930s Hollywood Stars, not the Portland Beavers, but his collection included game caps from fellow players.

Posted By: Chris
Didn't want to imply that the GUU folks didn't have anything to offer, but stating that I hadn't heard anything much from my GUU post, just that I was hopefull in getting any new insight...which the Net54 folks had been so kind as to share. Thanks everyone for your comments and emails. I enjoy the site. chris
