Posted By: youkilis
i recently purchased a vintage (ie original) 11x14 black and white photo of ted williams signing autographs at a boston department store in the mid-late 50's; while the photo is in less than desirable condition (it was folded down the middle at one time and has slight fold or bend marks in several places, as well as a few small tears along its edges), i have framed it and it looks pretty good--much better than it did unframed. when i received the photo it had tape on the front of it in a couple places where it was torn; i was able to successfully pull the tape off without harming the photo and instead used tape on the back of the photo to mend it--however, the old tape that was on the front of the photo left a sticky residue that i wouldnt mind removing if i can do it without harming the photo--which finally brings me to my question: does anyone know how i can successfully remove the tape residue or stickiness that adorns the front of the photo?? (the photo is on kodak velox paper)--thanks in advance for any help!!

one other note: in the photo, women in the crowd are holding copies of the classic photo of ted that they used for card #63 in the 1959 fleer set as well as the wrapper of that set--it is also the photo on card #347 in the 1976 topps baseball set (the classic semi close-up shot of ted with a bat on his shoulder and the green monster in the background); does anyone know what year that photo was from??
