Posted By: barrysloate
Dan- I have both 1910 Reach and 1910 Spalding Guides, and each has numerous schedules for various minor leagues. However, neither has the Western League.

Is it possible the league had another name (I'm grasping straws here)?

Posted By: leon
Agreed, might there be another name?

Barry- If you are "grasping straws" doesn't that mean you have them? Wouldn't it be "grasping for straws"?

Posted By: barrysloate
"Grasping for straws" is correct. I was a little too succinct.

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Thanks for checking guys...Barry, it was the Western League...wonder why the 1910 guides wouldn't have it.

Posted By: barrysloate
I was wondering too. There's a Texas League and about half a dozen other minor leagues...but no Western.

Posted By: Dan Bretta
I'm trying to figure out if this is a Lincoln player...the postcard was postmarked from St Joe, Missouri and sent to KC. Since Lincoln and St Joe were both in the Western League in 1910 I think it's possible this is a Lincoln player and I would like to know if perhaps Lincoln was playing in St Joe on the day this postcard was postmarked.

Posted By: Greg Theberge
Close but no cigar....

I have the 1911 schedule for the Western League, Dan, in my Facts for Fans booklet put out by the Hanley Brewing Co.

It does have records though, for the Western League in 1910...but no schedule.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Greg

Posted By: barrysloate
Can't find a schedule for 1910, but my Reach Guide does have a chapter on the Western League including a composite photo of the Lincoln team. However, the picture quality is poor and I would not be able to do photo identification. Oh well.

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Here's a better scan of the front....I just used the ebay auction picture up top.

It's safe to say he's a pitcher (toe plate, pitching pose)

Posted By: barrysloate
The picture in the Guide is simply too small and indistinct, and the players are wearing suits. Won't be able to help on this one.
