Posted By: Mike H
The other was getting long, so I'll start a new post with a Pennant I found this afternoon in an antique mall. I date it to the late 30s early 40s based on the full size, thin tassels, and heavy soft felt. The only condition issue is the missing tassel.

Posted By: Brock G.
I am currently waiting for this 1960 Pirates plaque to arrive. I bought one a while back but it arrived badly broken. I'm hoping it doesnt happen again because this is a cool looking piece.

The other two items are just some recent ebay pickups. Neither are really "vintage" but figured I would share them anyway.
The first is a lineup card from a Pirates game on 5-11-88 featuring Bonds and Leyland's sig at the bottom.

The other is a Dave Stieb game used glove.

Posted By: Brock L
I picked up another two cheap wire photos from the 30's. One is Ed Wells 1932 and the other is with Red Rolfe and Bill Terry from the World series. And also a 1965-1970 Yogi Berra store model bat.

Posted By: Mark Steinberg
Neat Pennant, Mike! I have the more common Brooklyn Dodgers version with an identical design. Have never seen a Yankees variation in 20 years of collecting these... yours is a rare find!

Congrats, and thanks for starting this 2nd thread. When I have more time, I'll post another cool figural piece that just came in from Heritage.

Posted By: Max Weder
Just got my 1936 LA Angels 36" panorama framed (42" with frame). Anyone have any good ideas about how to take a good picture to get rid of glare and have the whole photo? Do I need to find a wide angle lens?

Max

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Nice Max...Can't wait to see it. I couldn't get a good shot of my 40+ inch panorama at all with my digital camera. You probably need a good camera or whatever it is that the auction houses use.

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Mike, it seems you're having some great luck at your local antique mall lately...Congrats. It looks like they used an image of Miller Huggins yelling from the bench for that pennant.

Posted By: Brock G.
I dont think I have ever seen any decent baseball items at any antique stores where I live (Jacksonville). A few overpriced gloves here and there but nothing great. I would love to be able to go to antique stores and find items like that pennant. Nice pick up.

Posted By: jim sexton
Picked this up last month. I thought the pennants were 1936-37 BF3s but they are about a half inch too large. Another mystery for my bf3 collection.

Posted By: Mark Steinberg
Here's the more common Brooklyn version...

Slightly different positioning of the Manager. I like Mike's Yankees version (with the motion lines) better, for what it's worth...

I have stopped trying at the Antique Malls as well... it is 99% junk, and the remaining 1% is over-priced.

Posted By: Mark
Jim:

Never seen one quite like that... Almost looks like mini-pennnats sewn together to form a Beanie? Interesting logos, too... looks like it's from the late '30s or early '40s? Very cool!

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Got this in the mail today...small panorama of a team with "Lincoln" on their jerseys....nothing written on the back of the photo so I don't know if this is a Nebraska team or not...hopefully someday I will find a nice photo match.

Posted By: Dave Williams
It could also be a Lincoln, Illinois college or minor league team photo.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illinois-Missouri_League

Posted By: Dan Bretta
They look too old to be high schoolers so I think it's probably a town team or low minor league team. Would be great if this matched up with a Spalding guide photo somewhere...that's probably my only hope to ever identify it.

Posted By: jim sexton
Dan, I don't think it is homemade. I collect bf3 mini pennants. The designs
on the beanie pennants are identical to bf3s but the size is wrong. I'm guessing that the beanie was made by the same company that manufactured the BF3s. Also the beanie looks professionally sewn. Another one of those unanswerable problems. Neat item though.

Posted By: Mark Steinberg
Figural Pieces from the Late Teens / Early 20's are insanely scarce. I was fortunate to pick this one up from Heritage, in one of their recent weekly internet auctions. This very piece was featured in the REA Auction 2 years ago...

Posted By: Brock G.
I remember seeing that in REA. Great looking piece.

Seems you are on a roll with these early figural pieces. I didn't think it could get better than that Wagner statue until you posted this pic.

On the subject of Cardinals figural items, I just picked up this cardinals ashtray.

Posted By: Mark Steinberg
Thanks Brock.... Beautiful piece!

If you like those early Cardinals Ashtrays, keep an eye out for the March Hunt Live Auction...

I just consigned them a "lot of 2" ashtrays very similar to yours. One has a rare yellow Cardinal (with red highlights) in a batting position... only one I have ever seen. The other is rather similar to yours, with different coloring.

Just a heads-up, and thanks again!

Posted By: Brock G.
Mark,
Thanks for the head-up on those cardinals ashtrays. Something I definetley will be interested in.
If you go back to a thread you started a few months ago about everyone's favorite figural pieces (page 5) there is a picture posted by Clint that shows an ashtray with the cardinal in a batting stance. Is this one similiar to the one you consigned?

Posted By: Jodi Birkholm
Speaking of smoking-related baseball memorabilia, I'm still kicking myself for not bidding on the handful of cigarette cases/tabletop holders that were part of Hunt's DiMaggio Estate auction. I'm a lifelong smoker, and would have loved to own one of Joltin' Joe's pocket cig holders. What a conversation piece!

Posted By: Mark Steinberg
Brock... Found it! In retrospect, that was indeed a great thread!

Yes, the Batting Bird figural part is very similar to Clint's, but is perched atop a square ashtray... not circular. Also, the Cardinal is a visually stunning yellow/gold color, instead of red. Quite unusual...
