Posted By: Rhett Yeakley
Bought an Imperial Sized Milwaukee Brewers cabinet recently, photo by E. Hindman ("Commercial Photographer, Milwaukee) on the mount. Many of the players are very recognizable, and I immediately ID'ed Tom Jones sitting in the middle, and I believe "Jap" Barbeau sitting on far right side, also the guy third from right kinda looks like Germany Schaefer but can't find solid record of him with Milwaukee. I haven't done too much research but hoping someone can help. I'm thinking it isn't from 1914 as Hap Felsch was on the team and I don't see him in the photo. I was only able to scan the picture portion of the photo as it is much bigger than my scanner.

Any help would be appreciated.
-Rhett

Here is photo (Hope it isn't too big):

Here is blown up left side:

Here is blown up right side:

Posted By: Rhett Yeakley
Looking at the picture while I am here at work, I believe the guy standing second from right might be Irv Young. Anybody else have any thoughts? I have access to many Spalding Guides but unfortunately not to the guide from 1916 (which would have the team from 1915, which is when I suspect this photo is from). Also the Spalding Guides have American Association and Eastern/International League rosters in the "Official Roster" sections, so anybody with a 1916 Spalding Guide would be of great help. I am thinking 1915 because Barbeau started with Milwaukee in 1914, but since I don't see Felsch I think it may be the next year (Felsch was essentially the top prospect in baseball after his 1914 Milwaukee season, and was in the majors the next year).
-Rhett

Posted By: John E
The team is from 1913

Front row left to right...
Ralph Cutting (p), Larry Chappelle (of), Joe Hovlik (p), Woozey (the goat)

Center
Larry Gilbert (of), Buster Braun (p), Cy Slapnicka (p), Tom Jones (1b), Harry Clark (3b/mgr), Tom Dougherty (p), Joe Berg (if), William Marshall (c)

Back
Jimmy Block (c), Rube Nicholson (p), Newt Randall (of, also of T206 fame), Johnny Hughes (c), Phil Lewis (2b), Doc Watson (p)

Hap Felsch and Lena Blackbourne were also on the team but are not pictured.

This was the team that won the first American Association championship for Milwaukee.

Woozey was a gift from the Milwaukee Journal. He served as the unofficial groundskeeper when the Brewers were on the road. Also, he was kept in a pen above the press box which apparently caused quite a stench.

Great piece!

If you ever decide to part with it , keep me in mind.

(My avatar is Aw-gust, the old Milwaukee Brewers mascot)

Posted By: Dennis
It looks like the question has been answered. I will submit this cabinet photo to share info on the 1915 team. Photographer is Bonnie Brown of Milwaukee. It seemed, for a moment, that there was a slight resemblance to the player 3rd from left in the back row. Posted By: Dan Bretta
Check me if I'm wrong here Dennis, but your cabinet photo seems to show a player from 1895 and not 1915.

Posted By: John E
I believe Dan is right. The only reference I could find at the moment was the he was on the '95 team and played left field.
