Posted By: Alan Elefson
Hi-
I recently acquired the cap scanned below (cheaply and at a flea market, what else is new?) and I had a few questions about it:
1. Is there any chance that this is a baseball cap? If so, what would 47 stand for? If not, what other sport/profession might have a cap similar to this style? The dealer I acquired it from said he bought it as a baseball cap in Western MA, but he had no specifics.
2. How old is the hat? Is there a way to date caps by the interior or exterior?
3. Real longshot, but if this is a baseball cap, any idea what team/area used it?
I realize these are "pie in the sky" questions and please realize that I am not trying to proove that this is John Mcgraw's first baseball cap or anything similar, but I figured it is worth a shot posting it. Please also feel free to use this thread to provide any information about vintage baseball caps.
Thanks in advance,
Alan Elefson
aelefson@hotmail.com

Posted By: Mike H
It looks like a pledge cap or freshman cap for the class of 47. It doesn't look baseball to me.

The good thing is you didn't pay a lot and it still looks good in a memorabilia display.

Here's my beanie cap sitting on an old uniform...
