The rest is all dusty old stuff from before Prohibition. My wife, daughter and I had a lot of fun that year. I would have to say my favorite Red Sox item is a 1945 Program from June 23, 1945 which is the day my dad was born. He lived as a child in Boston before my grandma got homesick for Nebraska and I assume forced my grandpa to move here. I still have lots of family out there, but I have never met them, and now that my dad and grandpa are gone I doubt that I ever will meet them. If you've been a lifelong Bostonian my last name may be familiar as my uncle was a politician there...Mayor of Somerville, state senator and head of the General Services Administration during the Carter presidency. I do have this photo of Jimmie Foxx from spring training in 1936...this could possibly be the first photo of Foxx in a Red Sox uniform. <img src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b331/nudan92/Hall%20Of%20Famer%20Photos/foxx1.jpg">

I actually grew up and presently live in Rhode Island, about an hour's drive from Boston (and home of the Paw Sox, the triple A affiliate of the Sox). Lived in Boston for 7 years going to school there (even lived a year in Somerville!). My wife is from Medford, a town adjacent to Somerville and my mother in law grew up in the Italian North End of Boston. She even knew Anthony from the Prince Spaghetti commercials (I think only a New Englanda may even know what the heck I'm talking about there). If you ever get out here give me a ring. There's actually a great Sports show coming up the first weekend in November, a bit north of Boston in the town of Wilmington (anybody on here going?). That's pretty cool about your family. Jeff, I purchased the base in a MLB auction the December after the World Series. They had a few bases, some game used balls, etc. Ugly auction, but I just had to get something to remember the year by. My wife is really into the Sox (she's glued to the t.v. as I type this) so it was a great memory of a lot of fun times we shared together that year. It's the only thing I have that isn't from before 1920 with the exception of a ball Johnny Pesky signed for us when we met him. What a great guy he is. A true gentleman. Here's hoping the Sox don't go defunct <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14>

Unfortunately, that annoying thing called work requires me to be really alert at 8:00 in the morning. <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14> I actually looked into tickets if they came back to Boston for game 5. Two bleacher tickets were going for $5000. Ouch! I'm fortunate to get up to Fenway a few times a year, and to a few games at McCoy (Pawsox) as well. Indians just scored. $@#%

The first year I followed baseball was in 1970, when I was 9. That was the start of the Big Red Machine era. But what really sealed it for me was watching the All-Star game that year. When Pete Rose took out Ray Fosse and scored the winning run, it simply blew me away. I immediately began to copy his every move on the field, from running out a walk, to crouching before I swung and, of course, sliding headfirst. I never took up gambling, though. At an early age I determined my money was better off in baseball cards ... There's just a few problems: The 2004 Yankees are not the 2007 Tribe The top and bottom of the lineup are slumping Despite the admiration I have for him personally, we have a non-responsive/non-reactionary manager who seems to be unaware of the events that are unfolding around him. I can't for the life of me understand how he keeps sticking with the same lineup night after night when he sees it's not working. I don't know if it's loyalty to players, information coming from the higher ups, or just plain Grady Little syndrome. Why is Ellsbury sitting on the bench? Bobby Keilty has a pretty good track record against these guys. Why is he on the bench except for game one? I absolutely love Dustin, but he's as cold in October as he is in April. Maybe it's the cold weather, I don't know. Where's Cora? I would think that if one sees a trend, and something's not working over two nights, then three, one might say to themselves it's time mix it up a bit. Then again, I'm not a manager of a big league ball team. You would think I would be used to this by now <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14>

As you probably have figured out by now, I collect vintage New York Yankee material, with an emphasis on the period 1903-1927. So I probably would have gone after that photo regardless. But after my youngest son was born at that very spot, I had to have it, and probably overpaid a bit. (I'll pass it on to him, of course)

Hopefully tonight's trainwreck won't be the last I see this year, but I'm not hoping for much. Steve, thanks for posting your stuff. It's great to see more members on here post their material.
