Help on Red Sox Bat

Posted By: <b>Greg</b><p>I purchased this bat a couple of years ago. It's a Wright and Ditson that has RED SOX JR. on it. When I bought it, (I think it may have been from you, Scott ??) the date placed on it was pre-1920. Does anyone know what type of bat it is? It's 30" long I believe. Would the "Jr." represent a store model type of bat for kids? Any help would be appreciated...<br /><img src="http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z192/HiNeighbor_2007/DSC00301.jpg">

Posted By: <b>Dan Bretta</b><p>It's a kids bat and it's definitely pre-1920. I'm guessing since Wright-Ditson was located in Boston that it was a very popular model with the younger set.

You can see an ad for them (tennis player logo) at the bottom of the red and white 1909 scorecard on the right:<br /><img src="http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z192/HiNeighbor_2007/DSC00300.jpg"><br /><br />I thought it was a kids bat. Great shot.<br /><br />Hey Scott, you guys always have the best spot and greatest stuff at the Wilmington show. Of course, that's a very biased opinion as you are the ONLY guys who seem to have anything I'm interested in. I have a few cards here and there, but they don't do much for me.<br /><br />Believe me, Chris and I were on the phone all the time over the last REA auction. I know he got some great Nuf Ced stuff as well. Unfortunately he missed out on one lot he was really after. He seems to have a knack for finding great stuff. He's a great guy to match. I'm glad he got the groundbreaking photo. That is an incredible piece of history.<br /><br />Greg
