Posted By: Bill Cornell
Please read before you post!

My thanks again to everyone who contributed to the VBC bill: the donations easily covered a full year's bill and more.

I'm taking the liberty of declaring this September "VBC Forum Month". 3 years ago, on 9/13/01, Elliot started it to replace the Fullcount board. His generous effort helped the hobby's best forum to grow to today's numbers: 8,000 page views and 600 unique visitors daily, both more than double what we had only a year ago. If you enjoy the forum, please let others know and we'll have 3 more great years.

Bill

************************************************** **************************
September 2004

The usual Buy/Sell/Thread disclaimer is in effect: all transactions must be done at your own risk. Posters in this thread are not screened by the moderator or by anyone else. Do your own research before completing any transaction.

Please include your email address when you post and respond to others through that means, not in the thread.

2004 B/S/T threads: August July June May April March February January

I'm also working on what I call my "$10 T207 set" - I'm trying to spend around ten dollars per card, and so far I've picked up 42 for $380, thanks to eBay and Andy. I'm happy to buy anything that would be at home in an SGC 10 holder, and of course I'd pay for for low-grade toughies and HOFs.

Thanks!
Geoff

Posted By: Aaron M.
Thanks for hosting a great site! VBC is easily the best place on the Internet to discuss vintage baseball in specific and the sport in general. My knowledge of, and appreciation for, the early roots of baseball has genuinely grown because of VBC.

Now, the good stuff. I'm looking for the following at the moment:

*c. 1910 Hal Chase "A Fan For A Fan"

*1907 Chicago Cubs composite team postcard with pennant attached

*1910 Detroit Tigers "Flag Raising" team postcard

I'm also always looking for vintage and rare pinbacks (no pm10's though).

Please e-mail me at aaron1050@aol.com if you have any of these items for sale or can point me in the direction of someone who does.

Thanks!
In what seems to be implausable, this is one of a bunch of cards that were left to my father. He passed away last August, and we are all getting some of the cards. I know a little about them. I was seven when my father inherited them. I am also getting married next year, and am trying to make a few bucks.

This is a 1914 #103. The writing on the back of the card is right side up. I know the 1915's had upside-down writing on the back. (I already received 1 e-mail saying that this card is incorrect with the right-side-up writing on the back).

The other two cards I have are 2 t-206's Meyers and Geyer.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5121503299

If anyone lives in the New Jersey area, and would like to inspect the card(s), please e-mail me.

Posted By: Dave
By now most of you have probably seen the hoard of N172 cards that came my way a few weeks ago.

While I dont have them in a format where they can be dropped into a shopping cart, they are all priced, and I can quote out wantlists more easily.

All poses are scanned. Some cards had duplicates so the one you see may not be the only one in stock, or may not be available but the same pose in a different condition, or the same may be available. I am trying to keep up with marking the images "sold" once they are gone. There are still about 970 cards available, plus my original inventory of over 200 cards that were in stock. Still have tons of Hall of Fame players.
In about a week give or take a few days, I will have the remaining cards integrated into the existing database, and you will be able to see exactly what is available and price, and be able to just order online.

I am not trading on these right now, and I am not accepting credit cards for these.
I am more than happy to field your calls and talk to you about the cards. I can be reached at 310 471 1959, and the cards will be on display at Hollywood park this coming weekend as I will be set up there.

<a href="http://gfg.com/baseball/n172.shtml/"target="window">ORIGINAL OLD JUDGE SECTION OR

<a href="http://gfg.com/LLojfind/"target="window">THE NEW OLD JUDGE SECTION

I also have a nice selection of <a href="http://gfg.com/oldjudge/n173.shtml/"target="window">N173 Old Judge Cabinets in stock, please take a look.

You can email me at gfg@gfg.com

Dave

ps. Posted By: Max
I have the following harder to find baseball books. Looking primarily first for trade. I can send a scan of any book to anyone interested. Have many more titles, including much fiction and later non-fiction.

Palmer, Athletic Sports in America, England and Australia, 1889. 712 pages, over 300 on baseball. Beautiful color and black and white illustrations. Much on World Tour. This copy if very nice, with a.e.g. Small puncture at bottom of spine, professionally repaired, else very nice condition. Owner's name on front free endpaper.

Ruth, How to Play Baseball, Cosmopolitain, 1931. Good in chipped dust jacket. Book is very hard to find in dust jacket.

Seymour Church, 2 copies, one inscribed by George Wright. (I have to keep one, so I am willing to trade the other)

Elwood Roff, Base Ball and Base Ball Players, Self-published 1912. One of the harder to find baseball titles of the early 20th century. Book is very good condition, except front bottom half of front cover has water staining.

George Moreland, Balldom, 1914, hardcover, good condition.

Johnnie Evers, Baseball in the Big Leagues, Reilly & Briton, 1910. Near fine in very good dust jacket. Very tough to find in dust jacket.

Everett, Changing Base. One of the first fiction titles. Fair condition. Has been professionally restored with new backstrip and new endpapers. Very tough.

Cap Anson, A Ball Player's Career. 1900. Good+, with no dust jacket, as issued. Spotting to spine that obscures “A Ball”, plus some on back. Marbled endpapers. Gift inscription (September 20, 07) on half title.

Babe Ruth, The Home Run King, very good in fair dust jacket, with bottom 1" missing from spine dj. Very hard to find in dj. 1920 title.

And just so the card collectors won't fall asleep, Meardle D310 Pacific Biscuit. very nice condition.

Looking for in trade: rare baseball books: Won in the Ninth in dj, Bride and the Pennant in dj, Thuoey, Peverelly, Baseball ABC, McGraw 30 years in baseball in dj, Pitching in a Pinch Putnam in dj; and T4 Obaks of Vancouver, Victoria players (I know, I'm dreaming....) or any other Vancouver/Victoria early baseball ephemera
