Posted By: Adam J. Baxter

Back in his November 2003 auction, Lew Lipset had an album for 1910 Obaks as a headliner. The album sold for 17k +. Have any other Obak albums like this been found? Are there any known for 1909 or 1911? If there are other albums known, have any individual pages surfaced? If individual pages have come up for sale, what have they sold for?

Posted By: Anonymous
I remember seeing a 1910 Obak album listed for sale in one of the Mastro auctions in the past few years. I am not sure if this is the same one that Lipsett sold or not though. I would be willing to bet however that it is indeed the same one. Since it was a printers proof and more than likely only one was made to see how much interest the Bollman Co. had in having them produced. It's sad as the album looks great and I would love to have one for my collection..... and at 17K+ I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

I hadn't seen that before.

And as an example of how certain baseball images were used over and over in books, magazines and even obak albums, here's part of the dust jacket cover from Captain Danny, by Walter Camp and is a slight variation of the Obak cover scene.

They are beautiful cards, the sets are reasonably large but not impossible, three distinct years/styles to choose from, and wonderful periphery such as the album shown above, the cig packs we've recently discussed, and I understand the advertising posters are also really, really cool, but I have never seen one.

Leon thinks I'm mean, but if it doesn't make him cry too much I'd love it if he would post a scan (the pain will be brief!)
