Posted By: Rob L
Picked up these cabinets this month from prewarsports. The first is a Jack Rowe cabinet from 1887 (allegedly) when he was playing for Detroit. The second is Kip Selbach from 1892 (again allegedly) approximately 2 years before he played for Washington. Are the years fairly close?

It may well be identified correctly but, considering all the crooks out there, you never know who might take one of the millions of civilian cabinet cards out there and match it up with a similar looking ballplayer and put a pencil ID to it. It does help if the ID is in pen as the ink from that period of time has usually oxidized into a brown color. There is also a certain style to writing during that time that can help determine if the writing was from that period.

Rob
