Posted By: bcornell
Please read before you post!

The 6-month bill for the VBC forum is coming due on 9/1. For $100, Network54 provides hosting for this site with no ads or popups, full search capability, and tech support. I'm requesting that people donate $1 toward this fee via PayPal by clicking the link below (you'll see a button on the page it brings up - click it to continue). This is strictly voluntary, of course, and regardless of the amount raised, we won't revert to the old, less functional site. If more than $100 comes in, I'll apply it to the bill in March next year.

Thanks, and enjoy the forum.

Bill

Make a donation to VBC Forum

************************************************** **************************
August 2004

The usual Buy/Sell/Thread disclaimer is in effect: all transactions must be done at your own risk. Posted By: Julie
Bonus, I guess. Hey, it's UNCLAIMED. NOw what should I do?

NEEDS: Tobin Lithographs--untrimmed, of Mickey Welch, and the 4 others who are NOT HOFers (Glasscock is one), BESIDES fERGUSON. In other words : Mickey Welch, and 4 non-hofers, excluding Ferguson. Have 5; need 5.

Also want American League Fan Craze, in very nice shape (not Lajoie, Plank or Flick). HOFers especially appreciated.

And I DID get the N162 Glasscock and Andrews, completing my basaeball set--but I got them from Terry Knouse, who can't use a computer, so it didn't have anything to do with the BST column...unless the little visit that Bill C paid him had more of an effect than he lets on!

Paper loss, chunks of the card missing, etc, are all acceptable. My wants are huge, so sending a list of what you have is best.

Jay

Posted By: hankron
Prices include shipping / click above to email

(14) Autographed vintage J.D. McCarthy Postcards. Each b/w picture postcard pictures the player and is singed in ink on the front. Includes Bobby Doerr, Goose Gossage, Dick Groat, Gene Green, Bill Freehan, Lou Klimchock, Gene Conley, Ray Culp. Cards have only minor edge wear, signatures are Near Mint to Mint. PCs date as early as the 1950s I got these directly from Mike Gutierrez …$63

Ten (10) 1930s Major League Baseball Players autographed contracts with Goldsmith & Drayper-Maynard. Standard 1 8x10” sheet signed in mint ink at bottom. Common players including Goudey players. Contracts have wear and tear including mail lines (contracts done via mail). One also signed by D-M’s President John E. Maynard. Display well, with contracts being a great source for authentic and vintage signatures … $95

Deceased Negro League Player Wilmer Fields brief signed handwritten letter on about 7x6” writing paper with his handwritten return address affixed to the bottom (total of 2 signatures). Mint handwriting, dated 1992. Fields was a 1939-50 star for the Homestead Grays and a triple crown winner in Venezuela. Unprecidented 8 time MVP in various leagues … $17

1956 silver plated small jewelry Box awarded to Philadelphia Warriors’ Coach George Senesky after Warriors won the NBA Championship. Senesky was an inaugural year NBA Player (Warriors) and a dedication with his name is engraved on the lid. Wear to the silver, presents nicely. Wood lined … $38

Baseball signed index cards. If I can I’ll unload a large lot (hundreds not thousands) that I purchased a few years ago from MastroNet. All different, all mint ink signatures. Pre-War to modern players, with the vast majority old-timers (Pre-War 50s 60s galore). No stars, but lots of deceased players and obscuritites. I’ll sell the entire lot for 50 cents per signature plus $6 shipping. Haven’t counted them up yet, so don’t know the total price. Selling as a single, entire lot only.

Brief 1990s letters on 8x6” to smaller stationary. Letters from old timers John James (personal stationary), Spec Shea and Billy Hunter. Also a touching small letter from the wife of Cliff Mapes written after Cliff’s death. Mentions “his beloved Yankees” and Alzheimer’s plight. Handwriting is in mint ink, sheets average about very good with normal mailing folds. $50

1920s Philadelphia A’s Joe Hauser signed handwritten letter on 3x5” card and two signed pictures (3 autographed items). 1924 AL Home Run runner up to Babe Ruth, Hauser hit over 60 home runs twice in the minors including 69 for Minneapolis Millers. Written in Hauser’s 90s, the lucid and upbeat letter has great content as he talks about his old roommates (Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, Max Bishop), his home run exploits, booze and being old. And he fit it all on both sides of an index card (angels on a pinhead). The pictures are a modern standard sized postcard and a post-card sized cutout, both picturing him in 1924 A’s uniform. Signatures and handwriting are in mint ink.$40

(9 different) Baseball old timers signed bank checks from their personal accounts (most joint w/wife). Virgil Trucks, Oscar Gamble, Milt Pappas, Pedro Ramos, Ralph Houk, Steve Ridzik, Joe Ostrowski, Carden Gillenwater, Cal Abrams, Stuart Miller. Handwriting is in nrmt or better dark ink. The checks average very good with fold lines and typical stamping. On a few the stamping effects the signatures, but the sigs are still clear. $40

(2) Cuban baseball players autographed documents while players in the US Major Leagues … Orlando Pena 1967 8x11” business document that required his signature (mint ink signature, paper has variety of folds and staple holes at top). Document has his name and Florida address printed on it … Pedro Ramos signed 1970 personal bank check that lists his address simply as “Cincinnati Reds.” Mint signature touched by the bank stamp. The check has staple holes in one corner, otherwise Ex …. Both long 1950s-60s MLB careers.$23

“Harwell’s Greatest Game.” HOF Announcer Ernie Harwell 1991 brief signed handwritten letter on Detroit Tigers Stationary (except the Tigers logo/letterhead is on back). In gem mint ink handwriting, he reveals his all-time favorite game as announcer (‘My #1 game’): 1951 Bobby Thomson HR. Stationary has mailing folds and a minor stain away from the writing. This was born to be displayed with a Thomson HR photo.$12

1970s Baseball Team Team Christmas Cards signed inside by team officials: Cincinnati Reds signed by GM Dick Wagner and SF Giants signed by former manager Tom Sheehan. Posted By: Kevin O
The good news: daughter number two, Keira Margaret O'Connor (poor kid), is home happy and healthy. The bad news: well, you know the bad news:

1) Very rare Napoleon Lajoie "Tonneau" color advertising postcard. It's in VG+ condition with its beautiful gilt border intact. The card is postmarked 1909. $350.

2) 1929 RDM Studio photograph of Cubs catcher Johnny Schulte. He stands in the field in uniform holding a ball in his right hand. A beautiful image with the RDM Studio raised stamp. The entire piece measures 10" x 14". The image itself is 6" x 8 3/4". $400.

3) Eleven original 5" x 7" color photographs of the interior of abandoned Shibe Park, circa 1973. They come from a photo album, and each is adhered to the page by either glue or paste at the top of each image. I have found no copyright for the photos, and the new owner should be able to publish them (my original intent) without a problem. I'll provide two typical scans to interested buyers, but will not let the others loose on the net. These photos are unique and unreturnable, but anyone is welcome to view them in person. $500.

4) Lou Gehrig cut signature in framed display. The photograph shows Gehrig at bat. The signature is in excellent condition. The entire piece measures 12 1/2" x 18 1/2". I do not have a COA for the piece, but will happily return your money plus postage and any authentication fee if the signature is dubbed inauthentic by either GAI/Mike Gutierrez or Richard Simon (PSA/DNA is not acceptable). I bought the piece in 1999 for $550; you can have it for the same.

Everything except the Shibe photographs is returnable: just let me know within three days of receipt and you can send it back without excuse (your cost). The authenticity of the Gehrig signature is guaranteed for life (no matter who owns it). and I will pay authentication and postage fees if it's deemed inauthentic. Money order is preferred, but I will accept personal checks from board "regulars." Postage and insurance are included.

The baseball is an ONL Bartlett Giamatti ball. They include: Spahn, Musial, Mantle, Wilhelm, Slaughter, Feller, Kiner, Kell, McCovey, Mize, Boudreau, and Snider on the Sweet Spot. I will back up any authenticating gaurantees. I am asking $400 OBO shipped and insured. If you are not happy I would refund no questions.

thanks
Jason

Posted By: Brian Maher
I'm selling a 1914 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson on eBay. It's in very good condition. In what seems to be implausable, this is one of a bunch of cards that were left to my father. He passed away last August, and we are all getting some of the cards. I know a little about them. I was seven when my father inherited them. I am also getting married next year, and am trying to make a few bucks.

This is a 1914 #103. The writing on the back of the card is right side up. I know the 1915's had upside-down writing on the back. (I already received 1 e-mail saying that this card is incorrect with the right-side-up writing on the back).

The other two cards I have are 2 t-206's Meyers and Geyer.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5121503299&ssPageName=ADME:B:LC:US:1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5121503299

If anyone lives in the New Jersey area, and would like to inspect the card(s), please e-mail me.
