Peck & Snyder once again...

Posted By: <b>Hal Lewis</b><p>I have heard back from the NYPL as to the research that they were doing for me. Here is what they found:<br /><br />In EVERYTHING that was printed in 1869 and BEFORE (city directories, Beadle's Dime Guides, newspapers)... the address for Peck & Snyder was 105 Nassau Street.<br /><br />In EVERYTHING that was printed in 1870 and AFTER... the address was listed as 126 Nassau Street.<br /><br />There are NO listings for the 22 Ann Street address... except on the few Peck & Snyder cards AND the store receipt that was found... so clearly the 22 Ann Street address was not around for very long. Unfortunately, everything back then was only printed ONCE a year, so anything that happened within that year span would not be reflected.<br /><br />The Peck & Snyder receipt indicates that the 22 Ann Street store MOVED to 126 Nassau Street on May 1, 1870...<br /><br />but there is still no definitive proof as to whether or not the 126 Nassau Street location was already in existence at this time and operating simaltaneously with the nearny Ann Street store (one block away)... or whether the 126 Nassua was actually a REPLACEMENT for the Ann Street store.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.lewisbaseballcards.com/classes/baseballCard/images/816Lg.jpg">

There always was an 1868 card of another team-=-but each member of that team was not paid.<br /><br />What's the rumpus about anyway? Whether the '69 or the '70s cards came first, or were issued in the same year? O.K. I don't mind remaining in suspense about that.<br />Many cards from a given year have pictures that were taken in the previouis year anyway. <br />

I picked up this receipt, for some short term fun, but I have no idea what these listed items might be: "2 Dz (dozen) pairs B H Straps", "2 Dz (dozen) R B H Straps Best", "3 prs. It is an interesting reciept for two reasons, Koening was competition for Peck and Snyder if I recall...he also owned a sporting goods store. As to what is wanted, the first two things I am not sure but the third thing I am pretty sure is answered in the text above. I think it is a pair of skates...the text right above talks about Peck and Snyders American skates...and a pair would make sense, #2 could be the size...maybe the straps go with them...not sure if what they are (roller -doubt it, ice? maybe, something else?)<br /><br />-Joshua

Of course my mind had immediately run off with the thought of some kind of American Association Ball Club item. <br /><br />It just figures that out of the gazillions of people that bid on ebay that I'd run across the one other bidder, of this obscurely listed item, on this board!!!!!<img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14>

Like you said, most items were only printed once per year, so an 1869 City Guide (for instance) could have been printed before the Reds were even formed in 1869. I would have been happy to give you inconclusive evidence for half the price <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14>
