A nice guy had a link to this site, and I have to say, I'm hooked. I'm 26, and have been collecting cards since I was 10. The majority of my collection comes from my grandfather, who gave me about 200 tobacco cards a while back. He was just introducing himself to the board and expressing his appreciation. And hey- sometimes people DO inherit cards from their grandfathers!<BR><BR>Josh- thanks for the introduction and welcome. Perhaps you could tell us a little more about your inheritance...I'm intruiged!

Posted By: <b>Josh</b><p>Although the old grandfather story is usually suspect, I am pretty sure mine is true <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14> I keep the cards in a lock box at home. I've never gotten them graded, just because I'm a little cynical and don't want them to get lost, ruined, breathed on wrong. <BR><BR>My grandfather lived in the lower east side of New York, and would round up old newspapers and garbage from his neighbors in the tenament house. After he gave his mother most of the money, he'd buy tobacco to chew, and save the cards. He played stickball in the alleys, so he loved baseball, and saved his cards. They are not in the greatest condition, but they are something that reminds me of him, and I smile when I look at them. <BR>So, you can take what I say at face value, I guess. <BR><BR>To the other members of the board, thanks for the welcome, and I look forward to chatting with all of you! <BR><BR>Josh<br><br>"I had a better year." <BR>Babe Ruth, on why he got paid more than the President of the United States.

Posted By: <b>jay behrens</b><p>If they are t206s, etc, then I doubt your grandfather actually got the cards when they were issued. He'd have to be well over 100 years old if still alive and both he and his child had to have kids really late in life for a 26yo to get t-cards from Gramps. Most likely he got them from his dad or got really lucky in all that trash he collected. The other thing that doesn't jibe is the buying of chewing tobacco and saving the cards. If this is the case, then you most likely have Red Man Tobacco cards, which would makes a little more sense for your age, but means Gramps is really young.<BR><BR>None the less, you still got a start on collecting that most of use would envy regarless of when the cards were issued.<BR><BR>Jay

Posted By: <b>Josh</b><p>Actually, my grandpa died in 2000, at the ripe old age of 104. He got married and had kids when he was 50, and he was 54 when my mom was born. So yes, he was a really old guy! <BR>I understand everyone's suspicion in a hobby where there is so much fraud and underhandedness. I dont have a scanner, so I will just list them. Also, only the last names are on these cards, that's all I have to work with. <BR>Oh yeah, most of the cards have Piedmont or Sweet Caproal backs.<BR><BR>Abbot, Adkins, Atz, Barry, Bell, Bliss, Brown (not 3-Finger), Bush, Byrne, Carr, Casey, Clarke, Cross,Berger, Devlin, Dorner, Dunn, Dygert, Flick, Frill, Geyer, Jones, Joss, Knabe, Lentz, Latham, Maddox, Taylor, Wiltze. <BR><BR>There are also some American Beauty backs cards, but the names are rubbed off.
