Posted By: <b>Joe P.</b><p>On the 26 June, after reading Julie's thread about the arrival of her VCBC, I was inspired to get off my duff and check out my subscription.<BR>I sent up a few red flares and a Mayday on this board.<BR>Sure enough, one of the answers came back saying, "This is the S.S. California - not to worry - you're the Titanic, you are not suppose to sink." -- while you're biding your time, here's a phone number - call this guy Jeff over at VCBC, and he'll take care of everything.<BR><BR>Being that I had nothing else to do, and being that the ship musicians were going into their second presentation of "Nearer My God To thee," I said to myself, why not.<BR>Being that I had plenty of ice around me, I fixed myself a drink and called Jeff.<BR>Jeff listened to my story, and in a cool - calm - collected manner he jotted down the issues coming to me and my renewal of the VCBC subsription.<BR>He said, "Today is Sat. the 26 June - it will go out on Mon 28 June." (He almost sounded like Clark Kent)<BR><BR>Today Tue. the 29th June - in a lifeboat somewhere in the North Atlantic - dressed in a beautiful evening gown loaned to me by some woman called Molly Brown. (hey, I had to get into the lifeboat.)<BR>This Molly Brown babe is having us sing songs while we're rowing to keep our morale up.<BR>We were into the second chorus of "Belly Up To The Bar Boys" when all of a suddan I receive this priority package. (maybe Jeff is Clark Kent?)<BR><BR>All kidding aside:<BR>There are two sides to a coin.<BR><BR>I JUST WANTED TO GIVE THE HEADS, OR OBVERSE SIDE A LITTLE INK.<BR><BR>I talked to Jeff on Sat, and I received it on Tuesday. ..... that speaks volumes.<BR><BR>A vintage collector that does not receive VCBC, is almost like dealing with a continuos fake orgasm.<BR><BR>Thanks Jeff.<BR>Thanks VCBC.<BR><BR>Joe

Posted By: <b>Julie</b><p>...or something.<BR><BR>I called Jeff to tell him I'd sent him the final version of my Vezina article a coule of days earlier (when my issue #38 came), and though he didn't admit he'd read it, he knew who I was and said, "If Don"--that's his father--"said it will be in issue #39, it will be in issue #39.<BR><BR>And if you want to know what an article about an early hockey player is going to do in a vintage baseball card magazine, I don't know. I ran it up the flagpole, and he saluted.

Posted By: <b>Jay Miller</b><p>I finally got my VCBC this weekend. Wondering if they could possibly take up more space in publishing the reader surveys. If the magazine does not have enough content print a thinner magazine and save some money. Why print the survey in jumbo type and spread it out over half the magazine? Glad to see another publication dealing with vintage cards is coming out. Maybe this one will keep to some sort of schedule.

I look forward to Old Cardboard and, as Jay says, hopefully they can keep to a schedule. If successful, maybe the competition can put a little pressure on the VCBC folks to not overcommit...........

Posted By: <b>Julie Vognar</b><p>one in June-July--that leaves September and December, and it would make the 4 they promised this year.<BR><BR>I hope..<BR><BR>I, too, wish "Old Cardboard" great success; already had a preview of one article, and it sounds very exciting. All in color, too!<BR><BR>The reader surveys only happen once every two years, so I don't see what's wrong with spreading them out a bit. Thought they were interesting. I did resent the "grading the dealer" feature, which didn't give but one grade to each dealer, instead of the 8-9 which they usually get. I was also alarmed that dealers I would run screaming into the night from got no lower thn a 2.88--the lowest possible grade, if memory serves me.
