Posted By: Cy
Not all money orders are like cash. If you are paid with a bank money order, the buyer can cancel the payment just like a check. So Beware of that.

Postal money orders are as good as cash.

Cy

Posted By: Julie
When I want to pay someone most conveniently for them--like Lipset or Mastro or someone--and it's a fair amount of money, I send a "bank chack," that I don't have to sign or ANTHING. It's all complete, and I paid money for it.

Can't receiver cash it right away?

Posted By: Rhett
TomBoy, I'm sure everything is going to be just fine, take a breather and just have a little patience. Everybody needs to remember that ebay is not everybody's full time job. If the seller has a regular day job, he might not be able to get to the post office 8.5 seconds after reieving your money order, not to mention the fact that it is Monday today and the 4 days that you have been waiting for your card is most likely due to the fact that the past two days WERE THE WEEKEND!!! When buying and selling on ebay or any other auction site, remember to have a little patience, 99.99% of the time everything turns out just fine.

Posted By: Cy
Hi,

If you buy a bank money order and use it to pay for something, it still has to clear the bank. The
check is sent back to the bank (electronically) and the funds will be taken out. However, you do
have a window of time when you can cancel payment on that check, even though it is a bank
check. So I would be cautious about sending a high priced item to someone you don't know who
paid with a bank check. Treat those like a regular check. if you send the item immediately on
receipt of a bank check, do the same. If you hold a personal check for a period of time, do the
same for a bank check.

On the other hand, a US Postal money order is cash. There is no place for the money order to be
held. You can cash it immediately at the Post Office (if they have the funds). Then walk out the
door with your money knowing it is final.

I hope that this helps.

Cy

Posted By: runscott
Most ebayers ARE NOT dealers - they have day jobs. You can't expect for someone to drop what they are doing, pack your card, and haul ass to the post office as soon as they receive your payment.

I mail items twice per week. While that's not as fast as most dealers, my packing usually puts them to shame...and costs less - with the exception of Bob McCann, who in my opinion is ebay's best dealer for customer service.

My whine: just received multiple cards in top loaders - no sleeves, no taped top - floating freely in a box with only a small piece of crumpled newspaper. Yes, one of the cards was hanging out the end. I would encourage anyone who pays someone else to do their packing, to institute some sort of quality control checks.

Posted By: Tim Newcomb
That every board like this establishes its own level of formality with language. New posters should notice and try to respect the existing conventions.

Look at the messages on this board. No one here (literally NO one) uses "u" to mean "you" and similar internet usages. I like to think it's because posters on this board appreciate the language and enjoy using it well.

I think I speak for most board habitues here. We would gently request that if you're going to post here, you use recognizable words rather than these half-literate shortcuts. There are plenty of other internet boards where you can indulge in that, if it's so important to you.

Concerning your money order question, it has been answered quite adequately by previous replies. Sure, m.o.s should get quick delivery, but that doesn't necessarily mean five minutes after they arrive. Seth Nagdeman is well liked and respected by everyone here, and your sarcastic follow-up even after he wrote you a courteous note does not add to your credibility, frankly.

Free advice: be a little patient, and have the courtesy to write out the words.

Am I right, folks??

Tim
