Posted By: Chris
I know not pre-war related, but most everyone on this board has been extremely helpful in the past. I'm trying to track down a Aaron 1954 Topps rookie card. Either graded or ungraded in EX or lower. Anyone know what dealers might have this card and and are reputable?
Thanks.

Chris

Wonder if those two college kids who scared Hank half to death when they ran at him to pat him on the back will be there. These days, they'd have been dropped by snipers before they reached the foul line...

Posted By: runscott
The Aaron story is everywhere - one AJC (Atlanta Urinal/Constipation) stated in today's paper that Ruth was relegated to "that other guy" status when Aaron hit #715. In Atlanta, Aaron is huge, Ruth is the miniscule white guy. I only mention "white" because the media here mentions it so often that it makes you sick.

In any case, Aaron was great and one of my favorite players during his career - as were Mays and Mantle. Sure, we saw skin color - but it made no difference to 10-yr old kids who were baseball fans, not grown-ups with other agendas...at least where I grew up.

Posted By: slacks
Aaron first appeared on my 10-year-old radar screen when he came (back) to my hometown in 1975. I remember running home at full speed from the drugstore when I bought a pack of cards and I his card was right on top. I still remember the card (#660) with the back of the card so crammed with statistics from his long career you had to use a magnifying glass to read it. I looked at it a few months ago and noticed the cartoon was about O.J. Simpson. D'oh!

Posted By: Chris
thanks for the replies. been to that site already, but it seems their cards a bit overpriced. watchin' eBay, but again prefer ungraded/dealer. eBay is my last resort.
Posted By: slacks
Big dealer (like 707) benefits:

- nice cards
- great selection
- guaranteed authentic and untrimmed
- convenient
- great service.

Downside:

PRICE

I'm assuming that you know that buying raw vintage cards on eBay carries some risk -- it becomes more so with rookie HOFers. Be careful out there.
