It was a bit sappy, but there were some good messages about the importance of family and such. I thought Matthew Modine's performance as the Dutchman was prety Good and the 1909 era baseball stuff was really cool. The only part that was real silly was the evil super villian Ty Cobb. My favorite part of the film is when the kid takes the T206 Wagner to his local card shop owner who tells him what it is and how much it's worth and doesn't try to swindle him out of it. The film seemed in a way to promote the fun of card collecting, like when the owner promises to "hold" a Topps Super Stargell until the kid can pay for it. The attitude and kindness of the card shop owner is something you just don't see anymore. Hell, you just don't see card shops anymore. That part of the movie really took me back. All in all a good vintage baseball flick, especially for kids.
