Posted By: <b>Scott</b><p>for the compliments on the cards..<BR><BR>Unfortunately, only a couple of the ones I have appear to be the full side panel of the original candy box.<BR><BR>The majority of the ones I have were cut from the package along the borders but done very evenly.<BR><BR>Apart from that, they are all in the same condition as the cards I scanned in.<BR><BR>I'd be happy to scan the others in my collection if you'd like to see them either individually or on the board.<BR><BR>Scott<BR>

Posted By: <b>Scott</b><p>Forgot to add... my scanner is a small Canon FB620U flatbed scanner... it does do a pretty good job seeing as I bought it for about $75.00<BR><BR>It probably does TOO good a job as I've been scanning a few other things from my collection and have noticed that it sure is unforgiving on the slightest creases or stains <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14>

I thought a little more about your question. <BR><BR>As I mentioned, several of the others I have in the set were trimmed but only along the side borders of the picture. Posted By: <b>Scott</b><p>When my father and I came across these in the 70s we had always suspected that the notches were because they were part of some type of candy packaging but had no way to confirm this.<BR><BR>There is a picture in the Standard Catalogue (at least its in the year 2000 edition) with the set descrption that shows an in tact box. <BR><BR>There were two players with each box. The one with the notch on the side you are supposed to open the box from. The other player is on the panel on the opposite side.

Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>Scott- that's an awesome set you have there. Thanks for sharing. It must be the best set there is of these obscure little gems. Not sure if I mentioned it but my type from the set is a full Chance just like yours. I WAS referring to the fact that they have the "ALL STAR" logo at the top. The sides being trimmed would not be that immportant (to me) as they had to be trimmed from the candy box.<BR><BR>Julie- the cards with the notch at top came from the other side of the candy box that the top flap was tucked into....therefore, one side (card) would be square at top and the other would have the notch. I guess as a purist I still need a notched variety...My only speciman is Chance with the full ALLSTAR logo at top...and I had to pay a lot for it <img src="/images/sad.gif" height=14 width=14>

Posted By: <b>Scott</b><p>Thanks again for the compliment on the near complete set.<BR><BR>I wont ask what you paid for your Chance but I will say that, as I mentioned before, It pains me that I sold off all of my doubles for my house downpayment.<BR><BR>Part of what I sold were a couple of doubles from this set (about 4 or 5 cards) that were basically "throw ins" to a lot which I gave to Robert Edwards auctions back in the early 90s... <img src="/images/sad.gif" height=14 width=14><BR><BR>If people on the board wont take it as bragging, I'd love to post a few other of my favorite items from my collection.<BR><BR>I've decided to start scanning in several items and am planning on putting together a web page when I can find the time. <BR>

(by board members).<BR><BR>The knock on the e90-1's was that most of them don't resemble the actual players - do you really think these candy box pictures look like Cobb and Wagner?

Posted By: <b>Hankron</b><p>Excluding offering all those baseball card images, the best thing the Library of Congress could have done would to have put some over text somewhere on the cards images ('Library of Congress' or such) ... Considering that a large fraction of the fakes and homemade reprints on eBay and Yahoo were made from the LOC's images.<BR><BR>A woman recently offered on eBay a small tin button she made from a unique photo I had online, and do you know I did? ... I bought the button because it looked pretty neat

Posted By: <b>Hankron</b><p>I think you only really have to worry about added text when the image is of high quality and the item is unique and special enough to be steal-worthy. My point is that Scott's images are of such high quality that they were born to be made into someone else's reprints. Most of those eBay service images are of lesser quality, so it's not a big deal.

Posted By: <b>Craig D</b><p>As a T3 collector, I immediately recognized the images of this set coming directly from Turkey Reds. For instance, the Cobb is Mitchell in T3, the Wagner is Lajoie. The Bates is T3 McIntyre-Det, Birmingham is T3 Chase, Burch is T3 Brown, Bush is T3 McConnell, Conroy is T3 Sallee, Coombs is T3 Krause, Hoblitzell is T3 McIntyre-Brklyn, Lennox is T3 Crawford, Mack is T3 Stahl, Mathewson is T3 Willis, McIntyre is T3 Devlin, Sheckard is T3 Donovan, Turner is T3 Young and Wolter is T3 Waddell. The action shots are also taken from the action cards in the 1st T3 series -1-76. I'm sure a few others have noticed this, but I thought I'd put in my two cents. Thanks

Posted By: <b>brian p</b><p>These All-Star cards are all neat and different, and thanks for sharing (I pretty much hadn't seen any of these before), but if they were as common as a E90-1 or E95 they would be viewed as even more artistically challlenged than the E91 set discussed in a previous thread, and would sell dirt cheap. They don't even come close to depicting the actual player, even if they are based on T3 poses. <BR><BR>I still think they are pretty neat--just be glad that they are so rare...if the time comes when you ever want to sell them. Don't take this as a knock on your cards, just an observation I felt needed to be brought to attention. Thanks for sharing, and hope to see more...<BR><BR>Brian

I don't view it as a knock at all.<BR><BR>I agree totally and mentioned in my first post that I knew the set wasn't too popular because of its artwork depictions as well as its scarcity.<BR><BR>My main purpose was to share them with the board and see if I could find anyone else who might possibly have these cards and, in particular, the two that I am lacking from the set.<BR><BR>If nothing else, I'm happy to share a few items from my collection because they've been sitting locked away for too long and my kids (7 and 5) are too young to appreciate them just yet <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14><BR><BR>Since I was encouraged to share a few other items, I will do so in another thread... Thanks to everyone who responded on this one!
