Posted By: Adam Baxter

Leon,
A couple of weeks back you shared a huge find with the board that included a complete Western Playground set (The only known if I recall correctly). I was wondering if you'll be having the cards from the set graded and if so will you be putting the set up on a set registry? It really would be a hell of a sight to see.

Regards,
Adam

Posted By: leon
Yes, I did get the set. Since it will be $400-$500 to get them all graded I will probably only get a few of the higher end ones graded. It seems that every time I post about something in the collection there is a minority (albeit a loud one) that says I am bragging. I don't really like the title of "braggert". If anyone is interested I did put another 40 - 50 cards on the SGC registry a couple of weeks ago. They graded my die cut J=K candy card too.....what a great job they did. They also made some typo's I am trying to get fixed. best regards

Posted By: Chris (the illini)
Leon, I for one really enjoy the posts and pictures of the new cards that you find, and dont consider it "bragging" at all. Many vintage cards are so rare that if people dont share their collections, a lot of us will never see some of these cards -- keep posting them!

I appreciate when a collector shares his/her collection with the community. The issues that you've been kind enough to share with us aren't done in a boastful manner, but rather as a sharing of unique cards that we may never see anywhere else (i.e. Western Playground, Fan's). You've got a great attitude towards the hobby, but more importantly..towards your fellow collectors. Thanks for keeping us in your circle of amazing finds, and don't let the whiny malcontents get you down.

Posted By: leon
Thanks for the kind words guys. I truly hate braggerts, which is why I don't really like being thought of as one but I do enjoy sharing pics. I also really enjoy seeing other folks cards too....absolutely more than mine....heck, I can see mine anytime.....The friendships I have made in the hobby are great also....in order I would say I collect for 1.The comradery 2. I enjoy the cards themselves (artwork in my opinion)and baseball in general, especially "old" baseball 3. What we collect is an appreciating asset, for the most part. So far with all of the stocks and mutual funds I have had over the years I have NEVER enjoyed even one of them the same as I do cards.....regards all
ps..this one has not made the registry yet

Posted By: leon
You're not missing anything...... just SGC....you wouldn't believe the friggin' 30 they gave me on my T212-3 Weaver....no creases, nice corners, almost perfect centering.....whomever says that they give friends "friendly" grades is just dead wrong....later

Posted By: jay behrens
My guess is that it got a 30 becuase of the glue stains on the back. Those marks on the back that look like grill marks are actually glue stains from albums. Having been an avid collector A&Gs, Kimballs and the like, I have seen a lrge number of cards with these 'grill' marks. I have a some N2 Indians that from the front look NM+, but have grill marks and this kept me submitting them to SGC.

Jay

Greg, stick to the "Ex" factor.........if your keeping the cards that is.( although this type of type is an exception because who would not like it as a nice type card in any grade if the price is right and leon is a type collector!) This card looks like a 50 to me but lately SGC has really been extra tough on Vintage cards.

Posted By: Peter Thomas
I have a set of these which average 4 when I feel that they should be at least 5+. I submitted some of them for regrading twice with no luck. I think because they are so rare that they receive extra attention and harsher grades. My Burkett is a 4 and is as nice as most of my oval 6's.
