Posted By: jay behrens  I pulled the auction for the e92 Nadja Rebel Oakes. No secret behind the scenes deals, even though it was still $150 from reserve. I knew that if it did sell, I was going to regret it. Unless the offer is insanely out of line with reality, I won't consider selling the card. My apologies to all of that had hopes of maybe winning the card. Jay

It is one of the nicest of the E92's, based on recent sales, I think it would have gone for somewhere between $250 and $350.

As long as PSA continues to slab vintage cards incorrectly, the vintage card collectors on this board have every right (and some might argue, duty) to voice their disaproval. We collect these cards, some of us would rather slabbing had never started, but since it's here to stay - we have to insist that it be done with integrity. We do the same for SGC, BVG, GAI, etc. Instead of arguing that we sweep PSA's inadequacies under the carpet, I think it would be in PSA's best interest and in YOUR best interest, mrc32, if you and PSA would focus on quality control rather than damage control. Then we wouldn't have anything to bash.

Posted By: leonAny legitimate (the others don't matter) card grading company that screws up is going to hear about it. I have called SGC on the carpet several times. They have ALWAYS answered with the correct answer from the times I have seen. Has PSA? (answer- no). I am NOT saying SGC hasn't made mistakes. They are human graders and it's how you handle the (hopefully very infrequent) mistakes that count.....and this sermon is getting old. I will not bore with other thoughts on this particular subject as it has been beaten to smithereens (is that a word?). As far as bashing each other....well, as board contributors it is our right to do it...and I would hope in moderation. Let's always not forget this is a forum for "primarily the discussion of our little gems".... ok now, who want's to take the first swing? <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14> best regards all.....

Once you've been here a awhile you can figure out who is fighting and is just joking. With BcD, it can be hard to tell the difference sometimes <img src="/images/wink.gif" height=14 width=14> Jay

Not PSA, Not past sales, not ANYthing other than the card) 1. Jay was good to post a public explanation stating why he ended the auction early. Alot of people don't care, and have no interest in being accountable. For that, Jay deserves credit. At least - I think he does. He knew alot of us on the board would "miss" the card, and he offered us some background. 2. Brian made a legitimate point about the Oakes card. There are plenty of these circulating, and you see them every couple of weeks on Ebay. It isn't exactly the most difficult card to come by. I would suggest, though, that in my experience... Nadja's have become VERY difficult to come by in higher grades. I think this is really a case of those of us that have them in our collections not wanting to let them go - not so much a case of them "really" being near extinction. They're out there - just guarded pretty closely. ; ) Brian - if you have some - this is a great time to sell them, slabbed or not. You could do __very__ well. Truthfully - I don't think $350 is realistic. BUT, I do know this - the 2 or 3 Nadja's I've sold on Ebay recently have WAY surpassed my expectations - even TRIPLED what I expected them to sell for. In fact, right now, this holds true for EVERY card that is better than its "true" grade...for example...I sold a PSA 3 Cobb for $1700.00 2 weeks ago...a couple of N172s graded an SGC 50 or even 40 - for almost $300 each...a number of type cards graded only about 20 - for $250 each. THAT is the market right now. If you have ANYTHING you don't want - sell it now, this is the best time for you to do so. And, money isn't everything, eh? (as you guys can attest to MUCH moreso than I can). NONE of the Nadja's I sold were from my own collection. I can COMPLETELY appreciate Jay's decision to hang on to this - common or not. There is nothing common about ANY card nearly 100 years old in THAT condition. To put it in perspective - Why do 1970 Topps cards of common players, but graded 9 or 10 sell for such INSANE prices? And, by insane, I mean 5,000 times their actual book value? What the hell is THAT about? It is because the card may be a common, but the card is in anything BUT common condition. Add to that the fact that there are 1100 people interested (this is just a number folks, don't taer me apart for an inaccurate statistic, please) for every 1 of them made available (SOOOOO many people building high end sets seeking those last 3 cards to complete...). I think you're both have valid points here! Now, about PSA... OK, enough from me already, I'm outta here! Jim
