Posted By: Brian Weisner

Hi All
I just received a very disturbing phone call from an Ebay customer who just received an empty package from the US Postal service. The package originally contained a T206 Bat Off Ty Cobb Psa 7 # 02533757.
I always have difficulty getting pictures onto the board, so I will email them to Scott, Leon, or anyone else reading who can help. Thanks Brian

Posted By: Adam J. Baxter

I can't offer too in depth an opinion on this, as I don't know all the details. If the card disappeared "in transit" while it was being handled by the USPS then I would advise that customer to talk with their local post office and to file a complaint with the US Postal Inspection service to report tampering and theft. Most complaints to the Inspection Service can even be filed online. If they can backtrack the route the package took and all the Postal facilities it went through, they could possibly find the individual that tampered with the package or the facility that the theft occured in. If it was a Postal employee and they did it in a Postal Distribution facility, there is a fairly good chance it may have been picked up on camera as most distribution facilities that handle parcels have cameras EVERYWHERE. That would be unfortunate for the thief as the USPS loves to prosecute. That's a real shame, I hope the card is eventually found.

Regards,
Adam

Posted By: Brian Weisner

Hi Adam,
Good guess. The package arrived partially sealed , but empty. Someone obviously broke the seal, snatched the contents and then resealed the Usps Priority mail box and sent it on it's way. The Postmaster obviously agreed, he told my buyer that it appeared as though the box had been opened, and resealed at some point, and gave him the claims forms to fill out.
Since I have been unable to post a picture I will provide the Ebay auction link. This card will show up somewhere? Thanks Brian

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&catagory=31718&item=2758687165
Posted By: TBob
I have only had one card (as a seller)lost in transit (knock on wood) in 6 years but it was a beaut. An EXMT Goudey of Paul Waner. On its way east from here, the package was discovered in the Memphis post office in the very back behind a trash can. The card had been removed and the package discarded. Since then I try to cnvince all buyers to use insurance but many still don't. I usually go ahead and pay the extra 55 cents out of my own pocket to get a delivery confirmation.

At least you would have the chance of theft greatly reduced because EVERY postal employee who handles your item has to sign for it, from the window clerk who accepts the item to the carrier who delivers it and everyone else in between.
