Posted By: Elliot
Since nobody else mentioned it, this is the board's two year anniversary in it's present form. I wish i could post some eloquent words like others on here, but I want to thank everybody for their contributions, this forum is the sum total of everybody's efforts. A special thanks to John Spencer and Mike Williams who provided the genesis for this forum with the old Full Count board. (It would be great to have you guys posting more often.)

It's come a long way from the beginning when a lot of people thought it would fall apart within a couple of weeks after some of the previous problems, but I think it has really grown into the place "to be" for pre war baseball cards.

I'd like to do a bit of updating to the forum---at the very least change the background---and would like to hear suggestions. I definitely think the pop-up ads, and lack of a search function need to be addressed. As I have a pop-up blocker, I sometimes forget how annoying these can be. I'd like to hear all ideas and suggestions, including changing the webhosting service, especially before we commit to spending money for some upgrades, and also the moderator.

My personal preference is to stay with N54 as the webhost service for several reasons----1) people have finally found where we are 2) there is an unlimited amount of archiving available 3) costs are very reasonable and 4) we would keep all of our current archive.

I would also be remiss if I didn't make a plea for more of the lurkers to post---the forum is only as good as what we put into it. Everybody's ideas and opinion are welcome.

Elliot

Posted By: Jeff McKee
First let me say "Thank you" this is a great place to learn about vintage cards. There is a wealth of information that is contributed here. I cant speak for anyone else but I have learned a lot from this site. Almost everyone here I have talked to have been very helpful and friendly. Talk about some cool cards that you wouldn't see anywhere else, let alone even hear of.

Posted By: Mike Peich
Hi Elliot,

You have done a superb job, and I, like a number of others, have learned a great deal. Add to this the fact of meeting a number of people at the National, and I couldn't be happier.

I agree that pop-ups can be an irritation, although everything else seems fine. This is the second site I check each day, after lamenting the Phillies latest Phizzle, that is.

Happy anniversary!

Mike

Posted By: Ben
For making this forum such an awesome information resourse as well as an inviting community for prewar collectors.

I agree with Elliot- the archive of information we have accumilated here, in the form of hundreds upon hundreds of threads, is of enormous value and cannot be compromised if we ever choose to upgrade/move furums. If, however, a search feature could be added on to the existing forum, all if this archived information would be more easily accessed- and greater benefit would come from it. If this is at all possible, that would be a huge improvement on what is already a "top notch" safe haven for collectors of very old (and in my case, very beat up ) cardboard.

Posted By: Kevin Cummings
Come on, others besides Leon have stuff to brag about. Between Julie and Jay Miller and Frank Ward and Scott Brockelman and Tom Boblitt and Pete Calderon and lots of others there's tons of stuff we could put up to brag about.

I'll even put up my Bid McPhee. (Hal, it's not for sale and besides, you wouldn't want it - it's just like yours! )

Posted By: Eric (goudeyhunter)
I also wanted to throw in my "thanks" to Elliot for his hard work and devotion to our great hobby. Aside the annoying bickering posted here from time to time, the site has promoted our hobby nicely, and it often enlightens even the old school collectors.

"You're all worthless and weak! Posted By: Rich Jacobs
Elliot and members:

One of the issues Elliot raised at the start of this thread was a way to deal with the popup ads.

Go to www.panicware.com and download their free popup ad blocker. So far, it has blocked absolutely every single one of the popups on this board for me. Overall, it has only missed a couple on other sites in the last few months.

I recommend it highly, as well as the price.

Posted By: Brett Domue
Elliot,

First of all, thanks for providing us the forum to continue after the unfortunate end of the Full Count site.

As for improvements, you already mentioned Search capabilities (a HUGE and much needed improvement) and less popups. One improvement that maybe I'm the only one who cares about is to condense the page number links at the bottom of the index page so the date of the posts is visible again without having to scroll over.

Brett
