Couldn't say if it's legit or not as I don't collect these, but the seller seems sure and it does look late 1880's. Seller even uses David's Cycleback site for reference. Thought some of the folks on this board with a little extra allowance might be interested. Link is below.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3240671919&category=4120

Posted By: Hankon
Assuming the seller is reliable, its relatively safe buying the baseball tobacco albums. I've never seen a counterfeit, and the reason is simple: it's so much easier faking a little card than an entire book. A problem with this particular album is that (I think) the binding is modern. Unless I am mistaken, each page has 2 or 3 little holes on the edges and the album was originally bound by string or ribbon tied through the holes. Sort of like a spiral notebook, except ribbon instead of wire. Still, most tobacco albums are in rough shape one way or other, including all those single pages floating around-- so it's not like waiting for the perfect 1987 Fleer Barry Bonds. All complete baseball tobacco albums are Honus Wagner rare, and worth the price as they essentially contain the complete set of cards.

Posted By: Keith O'Leary
The A36 album has the original binding. The A35 Goodwin round album was held together by a rivet (the A3 Allen & Ginter Birds of America album had a similar configuration and was meant to be opened in a similar fashion to opening a fan). I will say most tobacco albums are held together by string with a 3 hole configuration, but there are exceptions. Many of the Duke and Goodwin albums (and maybe all of them with the exception of the round album, I'm not home so I can't look) were bound with a piece of colored cloth also.
