Posted By: JC
I did not attend this year's show. Was there a good selection of material and dealers? My guess is that many people including myself are waiting for the Nationals. If any good buys, lets here about them.

Posted By: petecld
The good:
- I picked up the last E126 I needed to complete my set!!! Thank you, Kevin Savage.

- I had a great time at this show talking with other collectors.

The bad:
As far as vintage cards go there wasn't much there that I hadn't seen before. I had the feeling as I was walking around like I had seen this show before. Even a couple dealers who usually have little something for me had nothing new. What little there I saw was priced really high compared to ebay results.

- I didn't see any big crowds that's for sure.

- What I did see was an N172 $10,000 Kelley in a PSA 9 holder. What I didn't see was the bottom border of the card. Will someone tell their graders it's 4 borders, not 3.

There was a E92 Dockman Cy Young in a PSA 8 holder. The $15,000 price tag I thought was a bit much.

Julie, there was an amazing 49 Bowman Jackie Robinson in a SGC 98 holder! C'mon Julie, buy it, sure you'll need to sell your house but how many SGC 98 Robinson's are there, maybe one, and there are houses all over the place. It was only $85K. Just teasing.

Saddest sight: A well known dealer just sitting behind his tables, all alone, no one stopping by, slumpped in his chair with his hand over his eyes in what seemed like the perfect position when your asking yourself, "How much (bleepin) money is this show costing me again?"

Posted By: botn
I went there to spend money and buy every Caramel card in the house. I was not able to buy a thing from any of the dealers who were set up and saw very little in the way of Caramel issues. Most of the dealers claimed to have a very good retail show and did a good amount of buying as well. Attendance was weak though.

I too saw the Kelly PSA 9 that Pete referred to and I believe that is was centered about 80/10 top to bottom. On the flip side I saw a 52 Bowman Mantle GAI 10 that was absolutely stunning.

I spent an unhealthy amount of time with Pete Calderon and Steve Lucas and in all honesty this was really the highlight of the show for me. They are good guys!

Posted By: Tim Newcomb
A big disappointment. First big show I can remember where I came away with $100s in my pocket! There was nothing to buy-- at least not my stuff. I've found more at the quarterly Sun-Times shows. I'll think twice before making an effort to go back to Sportfest, frankly.

On the bright side, I found a few off-grade 1921 Exhibits I needed, and best of all, the R314 borderless Joe Vosmik batting variation, which I had come to believe was only a myth. This completes my borderless set (of course I thought it was already complete)

So I guess it wasn't so bad after all.....
NEVER MIND!! :)

Posted By: JC
Thanks for the input! I could not find anyone (including my wife) to go to the show with me. I was going to kick myself if all the rare type stuff showed up. Hopefully it's all on the way to Atlantic City. JC
