Posted By: Just another sodomized ebayer
The following item is now up for auction:

1887 Old Judge N-172 24 Card UNCUT SHEET Mack
Item # 2737450084

This is very odd because back in late April / early May the very same item was up for auction but by a different ebay seller (CRAZYCANUCK). That auction item was:

2720250271

I understand how different items can circulate around eBay but this item didn't sell in the earlier auction because the reserve was not met. The high bid was over $20,000.

If you look at the bidder list for the last auction (where the item did not sell) you'll notice that three of the five highest bids (including the non-winning high bid) belong to the person (WAITTILNEXTYEAR) that is now trying to sell the item on eBay. This is very odd. Not only that, the beginning bid on the item this time is about a hundred bucks and no reserve.

It would be very interesting to find out the NEW seller's (WAITTILNEXTYEAR) relationship to the OLD seller (CRAZYCANUCK) because CRAZYCANUCK is on a lot of peoples $hit list.

Does anyone know how this whole thing ties together?

I'd be curious to find out.

Is there anyone out there that can provide a rational explanation for this?

Posted By: Adam J. Baxter
I was chatting the other night with John(z28jd)about this very auction. WAITTILNEXTYEAR was definitely one of the folks on the bid history list when CRAZYCANUCK had this up for auction a while back. If my memory is correct, some members of the Forum at the time CRAZYCANUCK was auctioning this sheet had commented that this sheet had previously been offered in a Leland's auction and that CRAZYCANUCK had been involved in some 20 or 30,000 dollar fiasco over a Goudey set with someone on this Forum. I've heard CRAZYCANUCK'S name mentioned before and more often then not it's in a negative context. I could be wrong about the Goudey thing, but everytime I think of the CRAZYCANUCK ebay Id that Goudey thing always pops up too. Maybe someone else on the Forum can enlighten us on this guy's background.

Posted By: julie
as i said last time it was up for auction, nobody keeps it very long! It has been up for auction probably 25-50 times since it first appeared in Lew Lipset's Vol. 1 of the Encylopedia 0f Baseball Cards in 1983.

Posted By: Jeff O
Well, the rational explanation would be that "waittillnextyear" was the highest bidder in the original auction, contacted the seller "crazycanuck" and they worked out some kind of a deal for the item offline. A great deal for the seller, since his eBay auction didn't meet the reserve he didn't have to pay any kind of commission on the sale, so he kept all of the money whe he sold it to "waittillnextyear".

As for the starting bid, why not start it at $100? You save a couple of bucks on the listing fee, and I'm sure that the seller is confident that he can get a price that he would be satisfied with.

Maybe there is something strange going on... I don't know. But there are some really simple explanations that explain the situation.

Jeff
http://www.seattlehockey.net
Posted By: JC
It was me who the CrazyCunuck played the game with on the Goudey set. It was a 33 Goudey set advertised in VG condition with nice PICS of the cards. The reserve was 7000.00 and I ended up winning it for 7200.00 after sniping it at the end. I paid him with a credit card the next day which he took off line.

After waiting 2 weeks for the set and hounding him for the tracking number, he informed me his shipping dept. had shipped it out to the wrong address. Since, I like to work on the facts, I asked him to give me a valid tracking number on that to verify his statement. He would not do that and ask me to be patient as he would try to get it back.

After another week he said he will not be able to get it back and informed me he would send me a refund check. I told him I would rather have the set since it was pre-sold to someone else at 12,000.

Bottem line, he sent the check for 200.00 more than he charged the credit card and then he left me positive feedback as those were my terms if he could not come up with the set. I had to mention to him if he refunded my credit card or If I did a charge back for that amount. It might cause him to loose his merchant account or make him pay one month processing fees up front. After making statements like that to him, he change his tune pretty quick. He is very personable on the phone and loves to tell stories about raising money for sick kids or something like that. I have never spoken to him again.

I don't like blasting people (accept Mr. Mint). That's my story on Crazy Cunuck and I'm sticking by it!! "husband-of-tammy"

Posted By: Jay Miller
Full Old Judge sheets are very rare but, having said that, this is the ugliest of all the full sheets that I have seen. Most sheets are found on advertising pieces and are thus preserved very well. I have a feeling that this sheet will be pulled before the auction ends unless the bids get up to crazy levels. BTW, I think the original Leland's sale price was way too high.

Posted By: Tim Newcomb
Like the previous poster, I dislike saying neg. things about people, so I'll just stick to the facts here and let you draw your own conclusions.

Crazy Canuck bounced a $1500 check to me for a 1960 Topps set a couple of years ago. It took me over two months to get him to pay me properly. When he finally did, to be fair, he sent a bit extra (don't remember how much) "for my trouble."

I dunno if he's dishonest or just incompetent.

Tim

Posted By: Wesley
What a coincidence. WAITTILNEXTYEAR bounced a check to me for $1600 for a SGC 92 1955 Topps DH Hank Aaron card one year ago. He had a reasonable explanation and reissued a cashier check one week later.

I spoke to him on the phone a few times and he otherwise seemed like a nice person.

Wesley/ r338
