Posted By: Dan Mathewson
When a person takes a PSA card, then sends it to another grader for reslabbing, what happens to the PSA Population Report?

For example: Say you have a PSA 5 Matty Portrait. You have it sent to SCG for reslabbing. It is now an SGC 60/5 (or less, heh heh, just kidding!! No throwing rocks!!)

Does this card continue to populate both Population Reports? What if a year later it gets sent to another grader for reslabbing? Does it now occupy three Population Reports?

How does that work?

-dan

Posted By: Todd (nolemmings)
Dan,
The same card will occupy multiple spots in the pop report. I believe both PSA and SGC ask that you return their labels if you crack open a slab, so that thye can make appropriate adjustments to the pop report. As a practical matter, though, I doubt this happens much.

Similar to what you asked, the same card can be cracked and resubmitted to the same grading company (in hopes of a higher grade-especially on those tweeners), and it will occupy two spots in the pop report. This leads to an overstated number for the lower graded examples.

Just another flaw in the system.
Regards................Todd

Posted By: Dan Mathewson
Thanks Todd. I didn't know that.

Man-o-man...thre's really no telling, then, the true accuracy of what's out there (if you use a Pop Report as a reference). And, what else would you use? LOL...

Hmmmmm...

Posted By: Dan Mathewson
...that when THEY (company 1) cracks open company 2's holder to put it in their own holder, they probably don't send the old labels back to company 2. Why spare the expense to make the competition's Pop report more accurate?

Posted By: petecld
Dan,

The SGC report will always be more accurate as NO ONE breaks open SGC holders to have them put in PSA holders. Would you pull the engine out of a Mercedes to put it in a Yugo?

Just kidding PSA people.
