Posted By: dan mckee
Please look at the following: Ebay shut me down for shill bidding. I have NEVER bid on any of my own auctions with my 2 ID's Brunners and Darby-s. I do know T206Nate but have never met him in person. The other ID's I have never seen before! I had 100 items listed, they refund fees but the time I spent in posting them will not be accounted for. I want Ebay's ass for this!

Dear darby-s (bandache@comcast.net),

Recently we became aware your eBay registered account was involved in the following activity:

* Shill Bidding, Deliberate - The deliberate use of second User IDs or other eBay members to artificially raise the level of bidding and/or price of an item, which is not permitted at eBay. Posted By: petecld
So how did you get tossed off but Broadway Rick didn't? Or did he get tossed and was allowed back?

I can't keep the scams straight.

Seems to be some details missing in their action. Dan, did they tell you what makes them think you are all those names?

Posted By: Brian Weisner

Ebay doesn't have a clue! They allow, AAA paper cutouts, Pro Trimmed cards, and Broadway Rick to exist while picking on legitimate dealers for bidding on each others auctions. I have bid and won cards from many of the seller/collectors on this board, who have also purchased cards from me. Does this make us shill bidders? I have bid on some of Dan's auctions as well as T206nate's, because we happen to have the same interest, and to be honest I've sniped them a few time for items I had to have. Forgive my rambling, but Ebay's policies need to be enforced consistently or not at all. later brian

Posted By: David
'Irony' was probably not the correct word. I was relating it to the BRSZ incident where there 'wasn't enough evidence' to suspend him. Whatever is the correct word, it towers, at least 3 stories (As I live on a hill on a second floor, I tower simply by standing up).

Posted By: ty_cobb
As I tend to be a bit moralistic at times you
must forgive me if indeed there is some wrongdoing
on ebay's part.

But I really don't like users having two ID's.
The term 'shill' itself to Me doesn't neccesarily
imply short term personal gain to an associate or
yourself, it can also to Me mean long term gain
by artificially raising prices on rare card issues.

In that sense I think that despite all the slagging
ebay gets it could potentially be better than a private
auction house, where hidded bidders can keep the price
of rare issues inflated and hide their identity.

Generally such bidders have the means and would gladly
pay for the item even IF they won, but winning is not
the intention so much as driving the price up.

Again no offense, I have grown up in a professional
sports household and enjoy sports memorabilia from
that perspective only, the machinations
and profit motives of dealers I have little use for.

All that being said, I'll agree with the other board
members that ebay should have banned a few others who
have done far worse things. (In particular the AAA
newspaper cutout thing apalls me.)

Posted By: dan mckee
I have 2 id's because I bid on hundred's of items and I use darby-s to leave ceiling bids on stuff that if I win for that price then great. I use brunners for stuff I really want and I just mark it and come back for the kill. This way I do not have 17 pages of **** under my main ID of brunners. Does that satisfy you wondering why I have 2 ID's? It really isn't any of your business as long as I never bid with 1 ID on another that I am selling with which I wouldn't even think of doing. I shredded ebay in a survey with the VCBC article and I think they are just messing with me so I need a legit lawyer who is willing to mess with them back. Because this is bull****! dan.

Posted By: jeff s
Ty-

What is wrong with people bidding what they are willing and able to pay?

Prices don't stay up because there are meanies out there costing you money--they stay up because if an item seems to go for abnormally low, somebody's going to bid with an eye on making money on it. I'll bet half of the people who contribute to the board do this, whether with $20 items or $2,000 items.

As came up in another thread, this is what capitalism is all about. It is NOT shill bidding, and is completely unrelated to eBay users who have more than one ID.

Posted By: Julie Vognar
it really makes you sick! I swear, with the AAA business, they're saying "It's O.K. for someone to cut up pictures from old magazines, put them in fancy holders, and put high grades on them so people will pay a lot of money for them, IF THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT TO DO!" There's just no other explanation...

Posted By: runscott
I wonder if it was a mistake and it was actually shill bidding going on betwen the other i.d.'s in the list?

Since they are accusing your Darby i.d. and Brunner's is in the list, they must be saying that Brunner's bid on a Darby item. Did you ask them to provide item numbers for the ones they accused you of shill bidding?

The other possibility is that the owner of one of the other i.d.'s was pissed at you for something and somehow managed to concoct some evidence using his own ebay handle (one he didn't need).

I also know t206nate and he isn't you.

Posted By: dan mckee
no! never! I would never bid on 1 of my own auctions. If anyone has seen me do this then I challenge them to show me where. I hate shill bidding, I turn it in all the time and get the generic blowoff letter "not enough evidence" I crushed ebay with the VCBC article in a recent survey, I think this is spite. I would love to sue them. dan. I wish I was T206Nate, I would have some killer T206 color variations!!!!!!!!!!

Posted By: Brian C Daniels
I bid on a ton of stuff in quanity because I know how much I can sell them for. I also buy stuff in an upward market on hot items, hold em for a bit and then sell them...like you stated, anyone with some coin does this.

Posted By: ty_cobb
Well I've finished dinner and just had to
look at the so-called shill associates ebay
lists. Between Brunners and Darby-S there is
no cross-bidding at all. Each seems consistently
professional in bidding patterns.

The other ebay users listed haven't sold anything
lately of any significance so there is no tie in there
either. Perhaps they could identify the offending item
number??

Huge mistake on their part, keep us informed on how you make out,
or if they can clarify what their issue is.

Posted By: Anonymous
Thanks for double checking me. They had me beginning to wonder if I bid on any darby-s stuff with my brunners ID. I hadn't checked but was thinking about checking, crazy. Anyway, you are right Dave, I am just so pissed I want to attack the ebay giant somehow. Actually, could be slander suggesting I shilled with no evidence of it.
A good point someone made was that the other ID's may have been shilling but you can exclude T206Nate from them, I have never seen him sell anything and he only bids on oddball T206 stuff. He won my Bresnahan with no red in STL last month and was bidding on my T206 with the name on top this time. There was another bidder on that auction but I didn't notice who it was, Nate was the first bidder. dan.

Posted By: dan mckee
Both Darby-s and brunners will probably be suspended permantly today after ebay reads the 35 nasty emails I sent yesterday. It stinks that they do not have phone support for problems like this. There customer service is PATHETIC in my opinion.

Posted By: dan mckee
WOW! Ebay just called me and said they made a mistake! I said "ya think?" They said they are going to scream at someone for this! I said "how about sending someone over to repost those 4 pages of stuff I lost?" They said "we are very sorry and have a nice Christmas". I said that is cool but how in the world can someone just clobber 4 pages of listings without even writing me? That is pathetic in my opinion.

Now for some kind words: yes this is still me, The gentleman that called me was very nice, understanding and concerned. He agreed with what I was saying and apologized!

MY SUPER EXTRA THANKS TO THE GENTLEMAN ON THIS BOARD WHO READ MY POST AND HELPED ME EXPEDITE THIS! I WILL NOT NAME HIM BUT I REALLY WANT TO SAY THANKS. DAN
