It seems to me, anyway, that the biggest red flag for the altered ones are a lack of the entire "S". Though there are (a sparse few) legitimate ones without the S, many have at least a partial S plate coming through on the card...

Its value is to collectors of those kinds of things and if it garners huge sums of money, more power to its owners. Just don't call it a variation.<BR>"Fred Snodgrass Dies at 86. Muffed flyball in 1912 Series"- this was the NY paper's head on his obituary. I still cringe when I think about it. <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14>
