Posted By: Anonymous
This is a new idea. The "Mag e" error card? It looks like a cheap alteration -- but the scan is so poor, it is hard to tell. My initial look seems to say that someone just pasted something on top -- but again, the scan is just too poor.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1818553921

Posted By: runscott
Yes, I sold this joker a big pile of crummy cards and explained in detail the problems with each - scans of each were also provided. If I had thought this guy would pull something like this, I would have burned the card.

Posted By: runscott
- most were really nice, but a few had very obvious alterations, this being one of them. The missing letter had been crudely scraped off and there was paper sticking up where the missing letter had been.

Here's his response to my email:

How am I misleading? How are either of us to know if this is the error or not? Like i said, it was true about the 150 Peidmont back being the error version (or the one in which the error was on). I am NOT being a dishonest person with selling this card like this. I clearly state, in the definetion description, that this could or could not be the error. I also stated, honestly, that I had purchased this card in a lot of t-206's i bought from someone (which is true), that the person I bought them from did not do that to the card (which is true), and that the value of the error card is approx. $20,000. Scott, Im not doing anything wrong or misleading and the fact that your this upset about it shows me that you are either upset you didnt think about selling the card on ebay this way or that you are just jealous that I won it from you and re-placing it on ebay. I am NOT dishonest in anyway and I dont think you are right by judging me in that way. When you sell something on ebay, its not yours anymore. You have nothing to do with my auction of my card now, please keep to yourself.

Posted By: Jeff
given that I am selling my 206 set, it would go for more if I were to start erasing critical parts of the magie, the doyle, the demmitt, and the o'hara. it IS a low-grade set .

btw Scott, just got your T3 Baker in the mail the other day...great card, thanks for the auction.

Jeff

Posted By: Julie Vognar
post an extreme enlargement, we could all be sitting here thinking it was probably the error card, and some soul thought he would correct it, then changed his mind.

Fortunately, you saw it up close and personal, so we know. It isn't a bad looking card. What do Magee cards go for (I have a scd 2002, so you don't have to tell me; probably about the same as commons)?

Seller is dead wrong, if he thinks it's legit to withhold vital information for his own profit...

(Mayos, Old Judges ... grad school.) Also, note the EXTREMELY rare no-border Nap Lajoie portrait, which is also the EXTREMELY rare "discolored" variety, which is particularly tough to find with creases.

Jeff

Posted By: TBob
Remember the guy who was selling a T206 rare Magie variation card on ebay. The "Magie" was obscured but he "guaranteed" that the guy who sold it to him told him that before it was erased it was the variation version. What a maroon as Bugs used to say...

Posted By: jeff
I seem to recall a similarly defaced Mag?e that came with a letter of authentication from some outfit in New Jersey (a friend told me they were disreputable anyway...i didn't know and don't remember who it was). The letter attested to the fact that it was once a Magie error.

maybe the dude who bought Scott's card would like to pay some non-collecting friend of mine a few hundred bucks to "authenticate" the card. i could probably round up somebody who'd sign something .

Jeff
