Are we ready to start a new thread?

This card is from 1978-79, which was Malone's first MVP year.

I saw Moses play for the Spirits of St. Louis in 1975. Caldwell Jones was also on that team, and after the 1981-82 season, when Malone averaged 31 and 14 for the Houston Rockets and won his 2nd MVP, he was sent to the 76ers in a sign-and-trade for Jones and a draft pick. The next season, Malone won his 3rd MVP with the Sixers as he led them to the NBA Championship.

I still recall an anti-drug TV commercial Malone did in the early 80s. It was just him, drenched in sweat, slamming the ball against the backboard and catching it over and over, and either he or the announcer then says you can't do this if you're on drugs. Devastating. You could do a lot worse than have him in the low post. And you can talk about J all you want and not to take anything away from him, but Mo was the guts of those great teams.

Moses was truly an all-time great. I consider him in the top 25 players to ever play the game (I've got him at #21 for what its worth). Nobody, not even Kareem, could stop him in the low post!

Finishing up my graded 1971 set. Why collect the 1971 Topps Set? Because it had the greatest design in the history of basketball cards! Guys named "Skeeter," bright colors, ABA players, and many jerseys turned around backwards for the picture... love it. Just some "commons" here in these images.

No real value, but I am thrilled to add this Fred "Downtown" Brown regional RC. He was death in the 4th quarter with a game on the line.

Love the 1971 set, esp. since it was the first ABA set. I wouldn't exactly call Mack Calvin a common, though he is priced like one:

5× ABA All-Star (1971–1975)
3x All-ABA First Team (1971, 1974, 1975)
All-ABA Second Team (1973)
ABA All-Rookie First Team (1970)
ABA All-Time Team

I believe it's Scott Williams behind Jordan and Will Perdue in front. Pippen is the Bulls player with the black wristband.

Adam I'm not sure about the refractors, but a high percentage of the regular Chromes have some greening and the ones that don't almost certainly will get there. I forget the explanation now, it may be similar to why a couple of years of Topps Tiffany tend to yellow. It's actually interesting in hand.

It is the dyes. Perhaps one day it will be treated like silver coin toning, which has a varied reaction among collectors. Me, personally, I do not care for the greened chromes. I have a few...unintentionally.

As mentioned the consensus I've read is that they will all get there eventually, so if you want cards like the Kobe you won't really have a choice, but who knows.

I should have my Diana Taurasi rookie card back from the private signing I sent it in for in the next few days. I've decided to focus on basketball now. Lebron's rookies have a lot of room to grow, as long as they become the next iconic card the same way the Fleer Jordan has. I feel like most of Wilt's cards are relatively cheap for his status in the game. Same for Jabbar.

Caldwell was one of FOUR brothers to play in the NBA. He was surrounded by superstars and big egos, but he was a solid player, the type any coach would want on his team.

I saw his brother Charlie (listed as Charles) play in the CBA for the Bay State Bombardiers. Basketball Reference does not seem have the info correct on his career. He was in the CBA when he signed his 10 day contract with the 76ers. His one game that first season was against the Celtics at Boston Garden. I remember talking to him outside the locker room after the game. Very soft spoken. I was glad when he finally made it into the league and had a long career and an NBA Championship. That 82-83 season with the Bombardiers was played at Brockton, MA high school. Under coach Johnny Neumann (x-ABA player) they went to the playoffs. The first round they faced the Albany Patroons coached by Phil Jackson. This is the year Jackson won his first pro basketball championship. The coach of the Lancaster Lightning that year was Jackson's teammate on the Knicks, Cazzie Russell. The first time Lancaster came to Brockton their starting point guard was John Lucas. This was his way back into the NBA after substance abuse issues.

I grew up in the Washington DC area and remember Lucas well from the University of Maryland. If I recall correctly he had more of a set shot than a jump shot. I also recall that he was a very highly rated tennis player,

I was saving up for National but when this showed up on the bay I hit the buy it now pretty quick. Listed as a 1947 program, which it is. But there is a big difference between 46-47 and 47-48 and this is 46-47. Then the listed signature Chuck Connors. It is personalized so a nick for that. But there are 2 other signatures Nat Clifton and Harry Gallatin. Both Hall of famers and Knicks but both played later than 46-47. I wondered why they were on cover. When I hit Nat Clufton stats I saw the thread that connects these three. All 3 played pro baseball as well as Pro Basketball. So a nice group. On top of that Connors played in the game 1/18/47. The Rifleman only played in about 50 games over 2 seasons 46-48. So a signed program from a game he played is nice.

1948 Bowman #58 Arnie Risen HOF RC. I searched for this card at this years National but didn't see even one. Ebay auction starting price $100 and I brought it home for $102.50 plus tax plus shipping $114.76 an expensive card but the next to last card I need for the set. The last needed card #69 George Mikan rookie will have to be a reprint.

Boy is that one hulked out. Supposed to look like this:

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/IIsAAOSwKPxh2LMj/s-l1600.jpgAdam I'm not sure about the refractors, but a high percentage of the regular Chromes have some greening and the ones that don't almost certainly will get there. I forget the explanation now, it may be similar to why a couple of years of Topps Tiffany tend to yellow. It's actually interesting in hand.

https://www.reddit.com/r/basketballcards/comments/s2sbre/kobe_1996_topps_chrome_greening/is this also going to happen to Topps Chrome baseball from 1996 or 1997?

Thanks, guys. I've been after a Dr. J for a while. Always liked the 81 Topps, especially with it being his MVP season.

Some great cards! I really like that Maravich Icee, I am putting that one on my Christmas list.

Here are Wilt and Kareem on the same card:

I thought this one was interesting:

1964 Bobbie Olympics. #5 for the USA that year was none other than HOFer Bill Bradley, so this is one of his first cards.

I hear you, 1997 was a great year for cards. Here is the one that got me re-started on card collecting. I saw this one at a card shop (with my son) and just thought it was the most amazing card, so I had to get it. I paid stupid money for it at the time. It wasn't even Jordan's base card, it was a subset!

Not new buys but classics from 1997

The Jordan is my 2nd favorite card of his, second only to the oversized Star slam dunk. Wish I still had that one.

I had this Dr. J rookie year team issue signed at the 2022 National:

Images are from an exhibition game between the Squires and Bullets. The good doctor hung 30 on Wes Unseld.

Thought I would add this one for fun as my Son just texted me this picture. Just came back from his Beckett submission. The fun part of this photo is that this is our best team dollar box find as dad and son, yep one buck. We found it in a Pokémon based LCS.
