Hello All,

I thought I would share an intro post. My name is John. I am a 5th generation Cubs fan. All three of my kids have a Cubs tie to their names. I've been collecting off and on for a long time. My favorite set as a kid is the 83 Topps set.

I've been working on an Orbit Gum pin (PR3) set. I started that one since it was 60 pins and fairly affordable. I'm down to 3 left there. I'm thinking about getting into the Cubs cards from the 33 Goudey set. Lately I have branched out into older cards/pins. As well as single cards mostly focusing on Cubs players.

I have a few Cubs tobacco cards, low grade. I also got hopelessly into the 2016 Allen and Ginter set, again Cubs only. That set is insidious for collectors like me. Still a few to go there.

I also have a decent run of Cubs pocket schedules, would love to get my hands on a 2020 schedule.

I recently picked up a near complete 54 Cubs postcard autograph set. I filled in the rest with index card autographs. I then started collecting the 54 Topps Cubs cards with autographs. I've been putting these into binders and adding the 54 Topps cards in with the postcard/index cards was a nice touch I thought. Still a few more to go there too. I'm happy with raw low grade cards so they can easily go into the binder.

Most of my cards I've been putting into binders so I can look at them now and again. I also have my Orbit gum pins up on the wall in a small shadowbox frame. Looks so nice I bought another one to put some of my other pins in it.

Sorry for the long winded intro but the TLDR is: John likes the Cubs. Collects mostly Cubs cards.

Welcome John, you'll find this to be a great place. And say hi to your kids:
Ernie, Gabby, and Mordecai.

Welcome aboard!
Not even a big Cubs fan would name their kid Mordecai. I could see Ryne, Harry and Carey.

Welcome to the board. Big Cubs fan eh?

I saw a Cubs game at Wrigley in 1975 that turned into a trivia question - should be easy just based on the first part of the question.

What pair of pitching brothers are the only two to combine to shut out another team? I'm guessing the year will give it away pretty quickly.

Welcome to fantasy island.

I'm a Dodgers fan, I sold my kids moments after their births to finance my collection, so I was never able to name any of them Lasorda.

Welcome to Net54 John. Great to have another pin collector here.

Like you, I'm working my way through the Orbit pin set.

Cool game to remember.

Big Daddy and his brother Paul.

Some great names there. The mighty Steve Swisher! Heck that wasn't even the only Dodger shutout he pitched in that year.

Recommendation - 1933 Goudey Hack Wilson. Yeah - he's not on the Cubs in that card, but it's still Hack Wilson!

If the wife allows the next kid to be named "Hack", then being an "understanding" wife would be an understatement.

Welcome John. Always happy to greet another Cubs fan. I assume I’m a little older as my favorite set as a kid was the 1960 Topps. I probably have over 500 Cubs pins from the early 1900s through the 1970s. I started like you many years ago and here I am today. It’s a great hobby.

Not even a big Cubs fan would name their kid Mordecai.Better than naming him Three-Finger.

Welcome to Net54, John. I am also a big Cubs fan considerably older with a collection ranging from 1887-present. My favorite Cub is Hank Sauer. You will find this to be a fantastic site, not only because of the great people who really help each other, but also the knowledge that exists among its members. I have learned a lot over the years here and have picked up some great additions to my Cubs collection.
