Obviously 1st issue is Grade/Grading Co - I think probably a 4 in PSA Slab?

Any thoughts other than that?

Card appears to be authentic. Over the years I have cross-graded SCD cards to PSA in T206's, and a majority of them came back trimmed. The top edge on this card appears to be either diamond cut or possibly altered. It's hard to tell because of the angle of the scan.

The Cy Young looks good, but terrible holders---maybe a psa 4--nicely centered--I never heard of the grading company.

Seem to recall a thread here discussing SCD, Sports collection Digest Red labels, and SCD ( Sports Cards DIRECT) Blue labels. Something along the lines of the Red Labeled Company being bought out by Blue Labeled one. Thus S C Direct.

I've seen claims that SCD bought out Sports Collectors Digest but in this old
discussion from 2005 the person in the third post from the bottom says he
called both company's and Sports Collectors Digest said they didn't sell to them.

I purchased this Sports Collectors Digest card 15 years ago in the
holder. It might be slightly over graded (should probably be a 3) but I don't
think it has been altered.

I tend to believe the poster that said there is no affiliation. If they bought out
the original SCD why wouldn't they be using holders made for t206's that
holder on the Young is terrible.

Here's a great link that breaks down all the defunct graders and their trustworthiness.

IMO, the Young is real and trimmed on the top.

card is definitely not going to get a number grade from a reputable company.

Let's be real the reason it's in a non-reputable slab is it's trimmed. No bueno. Here's another one of this sellers peaches notice the key area of paper loss and the short cut: https://www.ebay.com/itm/T206-Nap-Lajoie-Pro-Grade-7/174204532228?hash=item288f663604:g:ruMAAOSwgfpdeEY i

The seller's rating is 91.7%

I'd stop right there.

Re: the card, looks authentic, but some funky edges (top & bottom), and if it were to somehow get a numerical grade from PSA/SGC, would be a 3 or 3.5 at best with those corners.

I'd avoid...certainly at that price, and from a seller with such a lousy rating.

Great article, thanks! I haven’t even heard of most of these. I only collect very old stuff, and for this, trust SGC’s flips more than any. For me, PSA is next (have more confidence in older flips), with BVG a distant third - on par with GAI.

Yea I noticed that too - but when you look at how he gets that he has only 12 sales over the last 12 months with 1 negative out of the 12??? Yes also a red flag -

Yes, 1 negative feedback out of 12 = 91.7% rating (11 divided by 12). But moreover...read the 2 negative reviews over the last 12+ months.

Not spectacular feedback.

I think it gets an A.

On the back the upper left corner looks whacked. Like they stopped cutting it too soon. On the back the bottom right corner has the same look.

Might be a factory cut but I think authentic based upon the other cards listed, feedback, and fact that most cards are in legitimate holders.

Wonder if anyone knows the seller?????

Too many red flags that would make me want to purchase. That being said, I do have a Cy Young Portrait PSA Graded 3(MC). Not saying that this stuff isn't legit, but I have seen in the last few months the counterfeit raws of Ty Cobb, coincidently being sold with other highly valuable raws, and high graded cards. This almost falls in to that category based on how uneven it is in the slab. I would take my money elsewhere. I do also agree that it appears to have a trim at the top. I enjoy collecting these cards, and one reason is because of all the years i worked in printing. So I think I can spot the obvious, and that looks to obvious to be more of a trim vs miscut in my humble opinion.

This Nap card is the exact same one in the defunct grading company list.

So how does eBay let him get by with a No Returns policy?

It seems to me that I can't list a $2 card without returns accepted....

I asked the seller about the Nap. Says he's not a professional grader, and that he's owned the card for 15-20 years. Originally purchased it on eBay.
