I thought you guys would enjoy a RPPC of Matty throwing out the first pitch of the clinching game 5 of the second World Series, in 1905. Matty started, and won, games 1, 3, and 5. He had one of the best World Series ever as his three wins were all complete game shut outs. The game 5 clinching win was against Chief Bender.

The writing on the card, written by the guy who took the picture and attended the game, says:

“Matty” pitching first ball at Polo Grounds on Sat Oct 14, 1905.

Friend Ed,
I guess you saw the Phila – N.Y. score. Three cheers for N.Y. I saw game + it was great. This is one of the pictures.
From your friend, Bill Vooz (?)

Thanks to the fact that this was apparently post marked when mailed and when arriving at its destination, we can see Ol Bill sent it the day after the game, Oct 15, from Jersey City to Ed in Easton Philadelphia, arriving Oct 18 (or 16).

It's a FAKE!!! Just kidding. That if FRIGGING FANTASTIC!!! WOW!!!

A lot of people like the post cards postally "unused". I prefer them like this, especially with the cancellation date.

Incredible!

Thanks guys! I think the writing and date definitely add to this one. As does the fact that he was writing to razz his friend in PA. It also makes me wonder what the other photos he mentioned looked like.

So was the real reason you posted this to show that mail delivery was faster at the turn of the century? :D
