Collecting baseball cards has been a thing in my family for many, many years. Let's see what has been passed down. Hoping that Leon might allow this thread to include post war.

Keep the tradition going!!

Unfortunately, Grandma sent all of dad's Mantle cards to the landfill back in the 70s.

Like a previous poster, my father's items are MIA. My dad had cards from the 1950s and a playing-days Hank Aaron autograph that went missing when he went overseas with the military in the early 1970s. He went to a game while on leave from Fort Benning, Aaron signed a Braves pennant. He said relatives also took his handmade walnut chess board, his Beatles albums too (his greatest loss!).

Otherwise what has been passed down to me has been wooden furniture, a couple vases, an original headless PEZ dispenser, and artwork from Ray Boynton (ancestor and CA Drepression era artist)....and family photos (because I like genealogy).

Here are some of cards that have been passed down to me. Hoping to complete the set. That said, these cards will remain with me until they are passed down to my son.

My maternal Grandfather collected when he was a kid. He was the son of Italian Immigrants in New York, was obsessed with Tony Lazzeri and later Joe D. I don't know what his collection entailed, I would imagine it included a lot of Yankees, he went into the service during WWII and his mother got rid of them.

Similar story with my paternal Grandfather. He was more of a comic book guy though. Kept all his stuff in a drawer, went off to Korea, his mother threw them away. He told me his favorite comic she got rid of was the one with Batman's first appearance aka Detective Comics No. 27, which just went for a cool Million.

Safe to say, I wish I had a time machine.

Safe to say, tidying up has a financial cost...

My dad's cards (likely late 40s and early 50s) didn't survive his mom after he went to college and then the Air Force, but this ball made it.

He got this in 1950, when Mickey Mantle's Joplin team was visiting my dad's hometown Enid Giants. He was 13 at the time and idolized Mantle. The other sigs are a combination of Enid and Joplin players he got that day or at other games that year.

Don't have any passed down to me or from when I was a kid. I do have some cards from original owner collections and those are cool.. And pedigreed cards from famous collectors are great.

I agree Leon. I didn't have any cards passed down to me, but owning some from famous collectors is the next best thing.

My grandfather was born in 1856. Unfortunately he never smoked pre-rolls or he could have picked up some nice cards before he died in 1944. Oh well, he did leave my Dad some nice silver dollars which have been in a deposit box for 40 years.
