Hi everyone,

My short(ish) story:

I stopped collecting cards in 1985 and started collecting Civil War memorabilia (currency/textiles/buckles/spurs/bullets). Moved on to collecting Timex watches from the 1950s and 1960s and when Covid hit returned to cards.

Bought my dream cards on eBay in March: Topps/Donruss/Fleer Mattingly rookies and then realized that I wasn't dreaming $$$ enough. :) Picked up cards I could never afford as a kid (1954 Ernie Banks, 1959 Gibson, 1962 Brock, way too many Banks/Mays/Gibson/Brock/Mattingly autos) and then I found s74 silks.

I'm a history major so I'm now focusing on the HoF from the beginning. Bought my first s74 silks on eBay this week and found this site trying to understand more about them.

Looking forward to learning more about the hobby and history from you all!

thanks,
Chris

Welcome Chris. This is a great site for your sports collecting. There are also many collectors here who collect a variety of things.

Welcome to the board, Chris!

If you are considering starting a HOF’er collection, here is a link to an alphabetical listing of the five earliest cards for every baseball Hall of Famer, through 2010. The site needs to be updated for the past 10 years electees but this should be a good start for you.

I've struggled mightily to try and locate a lot of this information. To see it in one place is fantastic. Thanks for the link!

Welcome aboard. I have never collected S74 silks, but I found this older thread on here that might be helpful.

S74 silks are great and a relative bargain, like the B-18 blankets. If you have the money, S81 Silks are gorgeous. Thanks for checking in with your story and being part of the gang, and happy collecting!

Thanks for this link, but with those pictures I can already hear my wallet crying. It really is a beautiful set. When I was a kid I loved the 1983 Hall of Fame Heroes because of the art on the card. These are an incredible combination of art and textiles which matches up with the rest of the things I collect.

Fantastic info!
