Let's post a complete master set of T205 cards; a pic of the front and back of the card is required.

Let's post them in order using a master checklist.

I have included a link to a near complete master set checklist of T205 Gold Borders. The checkist is from the Old Cardboard website and lists 220 different cards. It is my opinion that a complete master set has 221 cards. The checklist shown does not list the Christy Mathewson Cycle back 1 loss variation.

I personally have 219 of the 221 cards, missing only the Mathewson and Wilhelm "suffered" variation for a complete master set. However, I also have at least 2 cards of all 11 tobacco brands; American Beauty, Broadleaf, Cycle, Drum, Hassan, Hindu, Honest Long Cut, Piedmont, Polar Bear, Sovereign, and Sweet Caporal.

I have expanded my personal master set checklist to include the 2 different T202 panels that show Joe Wood and Walter Blair that were not included in the T205 set. I have also included in my master set the 3 different T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps of Joe Wood, Walter Blair and Bill Killifer.

Here is the link to use:

http://www.oldcardboard.com/t/t205/t205list.asp

Condition doesn't matter so post 'em in order if you got 'em.

Let's start at the beginning with
Ed Abbaticchio

Next up is Doc Adkins...and go.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200712/410169d2659e226ac711910b0c4e66f5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200712/48c2febff34b84d22d02698bfebf0028.jpg

Nice Bailey....the 1st Sovereign back posted.

So far 4 different brand backs are represented in the 6 cards posted.

Most of my set is Honest Long Cut so it's a good bet any I post will be that brand.

Next up is our 1st Hall of Famer...he is from my general area on the Delmarva peninsula...I have a nice Honest Long Cut Baker but I am hoping somebody else will post a Frank "Home Run" Baker.

I've had 2 Mathewson Cycle backs a 2 and the 4 I currently have. Almost had a PSA 5, too but couldn't quite pull the trigger. 2 Wilhelm "Suffered" as well (3 and the 4.5 in my set). It's by far my favorite set and think it will be more desirable when people realize it's tougher to put together (at least IMO) than the 520 version of t206. Loving it!!

Doing this thread in absolute alphabetical order is tedious and slow moving, to the point that it's not as much fun as the previous two T206 threads,
and the recent T205 HOF thread. But it's your game, so who am I to criticize.

However, I suggest that you allow the "B" group subjects to be posted freely. Followed by the "C" group guys.....etc., etc.

For example, I will break with your absolute alphabetical order and post William Bergen:

Ted,

I tried to private message you a few days ago about you starting this very thread but I got a message stating you do not accept private messages.

Then I made a suggestion on your thread after your thread was fully completed that somebody start one like this.

It was suggested that if I started it there may be participants. So I did. And so far so good.

I also tried to private message you again out of respect before posting this here but again I got the same message stating you do not accept messages.

It really doesn't matter that much to me but I thought a thread like this would be fun and different. I am sorry you find it tedious and slow moving but there have been no complaints and there have already been quite a few cards posted in just a couple days.

I encourage everybody to participate and show off their cards. That is a small part of why we collect. I personally like knowing the next card to be shown and the anticipation of who has it, the condition, card back, etc. It may make a nice database to access for certain cards.

As a fellow collector you are certainly more than welcome to continue to participate but respect for the game will be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

Some of us don't do PM's. But, you can always directly email me thru Net54 Email by clicking on my public profile.

Look, I'm glad you started this thread. I had no intention of doing it.

But, alphabetically incrementing thru a list of 200+ subjects, I think stymies broad, free-spirited participation.

The first T206 thread (April - May) playing this game with 400+ subjects was quite a success simply because everyone participated in a free-style manner.
And, this inspired the subsequent T206 (HOFer) thread, and the recent T205 (HOFer) thread.

Jake Daubert grew up in the Pennsylvania coal mining region (not far from where we live). He was an outstanding 1st

1st base.

NOTE....... you are forcing us to follow your strict alphabetical order ruling. AND it's not working ! ! Only TWO T205 inputs today.
Members are losing interest in this game. The previous 3 games (T206 commons, T206 HOFers, T205 HOFers) were free-spirited
and were a lot of fun for all. Anyhow, now I am posting my Jake Daubert card out of order. Several days ago I posted my Bergen

Ted, I always like seeing your Collins - it’s unique and helps tell the story of how these cards were made.

I believe that some backs were printed to repeat horizontally like your Collins open month Polar Bear. And some that were printed to repeat vertically, like the Devlin above.

I have never seen any case in which the same card was printed side-by-side _and_ adjacent vertically on the same sheet. (That is, 4 card parts visible, all the same card). But then again, I’ve never seen _any_ example of a T205 where I could see 4 identifiable card parts on the same card.

Your scan of Devlin was not in your post when I started replying to you. Your Devlin is the first T205 vertically mis-cut card that I have seen. Really neat.

Whereas, there are many, many such T206's cards. Perhaps, by 1911, American Lithographic's Quality Assurance department had greatly improved.

Kid Elberfeld had a career OBP of .355 across 14 MLB seasons. His fiery temper involved him in numerous ferocious arguments and assaults on umpires.

During Ty Cobb's rookie season, Cobb slid headfirst into second base, only to have Elberfeld dig his knee into the back of Cobb's neck, grinding his face in the dirt. It was the last time Cobb slid headfirst; from then on Cobb slid spikes first.

Mr. Gardner. Something I had not noticed until after I had scanned the card - the 'N' and 'Y' on his collar.

Next up Mr. Gaspar.

By the time he reached 30, "Dolly" Gray had already produced an excellent career in the PCL -- so excellent that he is a member of the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame. Then, in 1909 he joined Washington in the American League.

His MLB performance was less than excellent, producing a 15-51 career record. And most of the noteworthy accomplishments were negative -- he holds a record for walking eight batters in one inning, including seven in a row.

But in April 1911, as Washington opened what would come to be known as Griffith Stadium (and cigarettes came with brightly-colored, gold-bordered baseball cards), Gray got the start against Smoky Joe Wood. Gray would win the game, a high-point in his otherwise disappointing 2-13 final MLB season.

Bob Groom's otherwise mundane career (288 starts over ten years, 119-150 record), had spectacular high and low points.

Right off the bat, Groom nose-dived to record low territory: in 1909, as an MLB rookie (after five seasons in the PCL), he laid a huge egg -- 19 consecutive losses, a record which has only been equaled once.

But, he continued to pitch, eventually won a few and then, in 1917 while pitching for the St. Louis Browns, Groom soared to exceptional height: he no-hit the eventual World Champion Chicago White Sox 3–0. And, the no-hitter came in the second game of a double-header. Earlier, Groom had preserved the win in the first game by pitching the last two innings without allowing a hit.

Groom's no-hitter also came the day after teammate Ernie Koob's 1–0 no-hitter against the White Sox. Koob and Groom are still the only teammates to pitch no-hitters on consecutive days.

More Hoffman examples here.
This was obviously one of the trickiest cards for the printers to get right.

Here are examples of:
- White 2b, darker shading on portrait
- White 2b, little shading on face
- Yellow in 2b, darker shading on portrait
- Yellow 2b, green stripe in background
- Yellow 2b, "normal" portrait (blue eyes evident)
- White 2b, but yellow in 3b, and a small yellow triangle above 1b

I wouldn't call all of these variations per se, but they definitely show that this card gave the printers fits.

In retrospect, George McBride had a very surprising nick name. He was known as "Pinch" because of his reputation for being able to hit in the clutch.

How he got that reputation is puzzling because, after playing 16 MLB seasons, McBride ends up having the lowest career batting average of any player with 5,000+ at-bats. Go figure. His defense must have been spectacular (he led the AL in fielding for four straight seasons), but his hitting was rarely excellent, clutch or otherwise.

And yet, in 1911, the year his gold-bordered baseball card was issued, "Pinch" produced his best single-season batting average -- .235. Now that's hitting in the clutch.

The 'Go Advanced' button is also used if you ever need to change the title of a thread you created.

McLean was big & slow, but he could Hit & Throw. He was probably the biggest Catcher ever in BB (6 ft. 5 in., 230 lbs.).
His Major League career spanned 13 years, mostly with Cincinnati (1906 - 1912). He was really loved by the Cinci fans.

Rebel Oakes was quite the "speedster". A left-handed batter, he once laid down a Bunt, and scored in the same play.
The combination of his speed around the bases, an error (or two) by the opposing team resulted in a "Bunt - HR" :)

Dode Paskert with a DRUM back......

April 13, 1911 Phillies vs the Giants at the Polo Grounds, Dode made a spectacular catch which many Baseball historians consider the greatest catch ever in Baseball.
In the bottom of the 8th inning, Fred Snodgrass of the Giants smashed a deep line drive into the left-center field gap at the Polo Grounds. It looked for sure to be an
inside-the-park Home Run. Dode raced after the drive and at the last moment turned, and dove to the ground, and caught the ball with his bare hand.

I get a kick out of doing complete runs of my favorite T205 guys. Jack Quinn is one of the 32 subjects that were printed with the A - B - C - D back pattern.
This group of 32 guys were each printed with 11 different Tobacco backs. I need 3 more backs for the complete run. I have a deal going for the BROAD LEAF
and HONEST LONG CUT cards. The DRUM card is extremely difficult to find.
No concern regarding HINDU. T205 DRUM and HINDU are mutually-exclusive backs.
