I picked up this Foster last summer and although it has some tobacco stains, it's red background has a weird sunburst at the top border. The black border framing the image appears to be unaffected. It's almost like something was dripped on the cardstock before printing that prevented color from adhering to the paper. Has anyone ever seen this happen on a t206 before?

Thanks in advance for your ideas and opinions.

Matt

With all the t206 collectors and experts on here, there's got to be someone that's seen this happen before. Anybody?

Yeah, some kind of post-factory alteration. Fading or chemical reaction most likely.

My vote is little chemical spill.

I like that character, if you think about it the most common spots for these cards would be a bartop or a workbench for most folks. These were the day of DIY to the max and the worktable was used often as dad or granddad smoked away. They were pitched in a drawer with turpentine rags or whatever.

Not only were they not sitting in the house watching TV, they were before sitting around the tube radio listening to the serials.

Definitely a drip of a chemical. The black is the most durable ink, so when you see chemical color changes on the card, the black is often unaffected (or is less affected than the other colors).
