Still like my first Old Judge, which is this Ezra Sutton (only have less than a handful of Old Judge cards...I decided long ago my budget could only handle one century of cards, and the 20th century won out). I think this one cost me somewhere between $11 and $13 from an SCD ad from Wayne Miller(?), and it was a sight unseen randomly selected card by the seller. All of this says it was a fair amount of time ago.

Took me ten years to find a Mansfield Old Judge example. Alcott is the only player on the team and more than half of his cards show him on St Louis. In general, he's not one of the most common players, so between the scarcity and team collectors needing him, this is a tough card to find.

Collecting OJ's by team or by player can make the giant set seem less daunting, but this Gillespie run took 10 years. I may never finish the Esterbrook run.

I have way too many favorites to choose from, but I particularly like these two guys because I became friendly with their their nephew, Ed, when trying to correct the mislabeling that the Library of Congress had on their website. It was not until I got Ed to send a request, that the LOC swapped the brothers' names they had incorrectly associated with their pictures. Ed knew Gus personally and told me of his visits to "Uncle Gus'" house, so that's about as close as I was going to come to actually knowing a player in the Old Judge set.

I can keep this going...

Frank Hankinson was the last card I needed to complete my Old Judge New Jersey subset - all the players who were either born in or died in the State of New Jersey. Hankinson died in 1911 in the town in which I spent most of my youth - Palisades Park. While my wait was not as long as Joe Gonsowski's for his Gilligan - Detroit card, it was pretty significant (roughly 10 years)!

Currently, I have around 60 OJs and am relatively new to collecting them.

Kevin, what if I told you that I have the bat that was used in those photographs? And I have an LOA/COA/TPG document indicating it's the bat and it's authentic! Tell you what, I'll trade it to you for your frigging McPhee card (that we all know you "absconded" from Sasquatch)! Thank you Jay and other members who commented on the "Pairing" of N172 & N173 Pfeffer. The N173 pose was previously uncataloged at the time I showed it to Bob Lemke (who is greatly missed RIP) and then he included it in the subsequent SCD "Big Book".
