Schutter Johnson Strong Man Card

In the fall of 2018 there was news that a Shutter Johnson Strong Man card mysteriously appeared on EBay. Only second one known — if legit. Did anyone every hear anything further on this? Always wondered if it was legit or not?

Why I am worrying about this in the middle of a pandemic I will leave for a good psychoanalyst.

I did a search on the Network 54 Non Sports Forum. There was a thread about the card that sold in an REA auction in 2014 for around $22k. I didn't see anything about the eBay card.

Yep. I'm curious. . . . did someone get snookered or did they get the eBay find of the decade. Most of us dream of a a random find like that.

Looks like the card that was found. Authentic. The REA one from a few years ago was much nicer.

I'm not sure how up-to-date the SGC website is, but they show that they have graded 53 cards in total from this set, but not a Strong Man card.

Perhaps this issue was short printed intentionally to limit the number of people claiming their prizes. Interesting that the issue was released around the same time as the 1933 Goudey set.

The last PSA Auth Strong Man to sell went for $22K in 2014:
While REA is primarily known for baseball cards and memorabilia, non-sport cards and card artwork from all eras have always been an important area of focus. In this auction, non-sport collectors were treated to the only known example of one of non-sport's legendary rarities, the R72 Schutter-Johnson "Strong Man" (res. $1,000; est. open). The card, which had been kept in a private collection for more than three decades, sold for an appropriately "strong" $22,515.

Imagine how many multiples more valuable this card would be if the producers of this set, instead of depicting a generic Strong Man, had used this photo of Lou auditioning for the Tarzan role as the basis of their artwork (and identified it as Lou).
