I always chuckle when I read that a card for sale is undergraded by the professional graders. No one wants to admit the card is over graded. I love this card and I bought it already graded. But really, is this a 40/3? Nope...

Isn't grading subjective? Yes there are guidelines but how someone interprets the guidelines could cause differences in "subjectivity". That said, one collectors 30 is another collectors 20 which is another collectors 40.

In the case of that card shown in the original post, I think the grader was more than generous. I wish all cards I might submit would go to that grader.

Similar one here. I was expecting a 30.

Probably should have been a 1 but who cares, right?

This was my 'engagement ring' from my fiance (soon to be wife).....19 years ago now and only my 3rd vintage card at that time. Bought it in a GAI 3 slab, crossed it to an SGC30 tomb, and finally it rests in a BVG 2 brick as I like everything post WW2 in beckett.

And yeh, only leaving out of my cold dying hand.:p

Front's a stunner, back has wax/gum stains and small paper rubs/lift.
Overgraded or just right?

Wow, looking at the paper loss to the front of those cards above from Jerry, my Mick might actually be undergraded!

I'd say 2 seems about right, and presents great for that grade!

.
.

Perhaps an EX card in early 1990's, but certainly not an EX card in today’s grading world.

Light hint of a paper clip indentation along upper right border.

Small spot of paper loss along bottom right border.

Otherwise free from creases and such.

But this card might still qualify as one that has good eye appeal for the actual grade.

Looks like a 2 to me...depending on the back
