Another "mystery player" in the T210 series: Francis, Fort Worth (Series 3).

I was unable to find him in any Fort Worth Panthers official roster. Most likely someone that made the photo shoot but not the team.

Anyone able to identify this player?

Thanks,

Patrick

I have never checked Francis out. It's so odd how these players are there for so many photo shoots and get cards but never seem to have played before or after that moment in time.

Baseball-Reference has a "Francis" on Houston in 1906 and Meridian, Mississippi in 1905. No stats or first name. The Fort Worth Star Telegram may have had box scores. I think they started in 1910.

I believe Francis' first name was John.

I found an article in the 6 Mar 1910 Fort Worth Star-Telegram, that mentions John Francis as the Fort Worth catcher in a game against Rube Marquard and the NY Giants. The Giants were in the Dallas-Fort Worth area playing the Fort Worth Panthers and Dallas Giants. Francis was 1-2 against Marquard.

I just found another article in the 6 Jul 1910 Star-Telegram, mentioning John Francis again, and stating that he was now catching for the Longview Cannibals.

According to the 31 Jul 1910 Star-Telegram, Francis had been with Longview since 16 Apr 1910. The article also stated that Francis was now (on 31 Jul 1910) with Waco.

Time and time again it was very common place for players to jump from one minor league team to another within the same season.

This team hopping seems to be very common in the teams found in the T210 set.

Lots of team changes because the set is so big, is my guess.
Just a few types in the new(er) collection, otherwise.
