Hello.

I've been a lurker to this fantastic forum & all the links, but have not posted until now. Thank you for hosting such a fantastic forum w/ helpful links & B/S/T card marketplace.

Q: Does anyone have any experience w/ Pristine Auctions?
I saw some nice cards on their "classic auction" that ended last night and made multiple bids.

Not only did I never become the "high bidder" and lost the auctions ... but I checked their auction site this morning just to see the SAME EXACT CARDS RELISTED at a new one-week auction?

WTF gives over there?

Do they run auctions with ridiculous high reserves but do a poor job in letting the bidders know this?

I basically wasted 2 hrs last night on their auction site, chasing ghosts.

Man, that's frustrating.

welcome to the board.

I've noticed the same thing with Pristine Auctions almost every time I've followed. I finally gave up a little over a year ago. It's the same stuff listed over and over and over again. I'm not sure if they ever even sell any of their material. If I were you, I wouldn't waste any more time on them.

Sorry if someone affiliated with Pristine is on this board (or if they advertise). But the truth hurts sometimes.

I’ve had the same experience. From memory, there is some designation for showing if reserve has/hasn’t been met, but it is obscure like a red symbol or something on the bid page. The shorter term auctions don’t typically have items with reserves, but the longer term ones do and it seems like they intentionally set high to get people to their site.

Each of their auctions runs differently. Every lot says “no reserve” if there is no reserve. Under-reserve bids are in red font. The site will auto bid up to the reserve price starting with 3 days to go. The classic auction, in particular, is full of reserve-only items that rarely sell.

You should read the auction rules, it’s clearly spelled out there.

I did read the rules, thank you.

However, I was not expecting to see every single card that I had bid on for 2 hrs the evening before, to be re-listed the very next morning.

You either don't have an issue with that illogical BS, or you work for their auction house.

I think it is a poor model for an auction. It frustrates and confused buyers, and can’t be good for consigners either. However, I don’t fundamentally have an issue with it because it is clearly spelled out in their rules.

If their actions were inconsistent with their rules, that would be another story.

This is what happened to me:

I bid on 3 items. They were from the Wednesday weekly auctions. (States in the rules that some have reserves, some don't). When the auctions ended it stated the high bid price with the 17% commission price, along with the final price, and that the auctions ended. A little while later I get second chance offers for the high bid price. I decline because I felt the auctions were being shill bidded.

This next day they relist the same auctions again. They claim the reserve prices weren't met. How can that be when it showed the final pricing and second chance offers were made for lower than what the reserve was? You can't talk to them on the phone anymore, and chatting gets you nowhere also. I'm done with these people!

Same thing happened to me. I really don’t deal with them anymore.

I'm somewhat new to Net54 but I agree with most of these comments regarding Pristine. I was fortunate enough to win 2 cards last summer at decent prices, but overall their auctions are very frustrating to be a part of. I rarely look at their auctions any longer.
