would be your game 7 pitcher on the road? Remember, it's at THEIR best! Also, why would you choose him?
***I realize there are MANY other pitchers that could be here--but this is your staff to choose from***
I went as far forward as Maddux and as far back as Palmer.

Well; I have to like Palmer...

It would be between Seaver and Carlton, depending on the lineup. But if I had to choose one without seeing the lineup, I'd give the edge to Lefty.

Wow, that's tough. But, this is a cool concept, as of course we know they were all great, but for this question it really makes me think about them, as I saw them, on the mound which is fun. That makes it ridiculously hard, but I tend to lean towards the previous post with Seaver and Carlton and probably go Seaver. But man, Guidry was nasty, so, heck I don't know. Would love to be that manager.

Yeah...Seaver is my choice. If it's at Yankee Stadium, Carlton.

Carlton 1972. Any man who can win 27 games for a team that only managed to win 59 games total, and with an ERA under 2, is the guy I'll go with.

Palmer was pretty good in the postseason. Plus the card shown looks the best for sure...😃

Of the guys you listed, I would take Palmer, but I am not sure how Orel Hershiser doesn't make your list. I would take him over any of the guys you listed. 1988 post season 3-0 with 1 save, 1.05 ERA, 2 shutouts.

Palmer was 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA in the World Series. If I needed to win one game I'd want a little better than that.

For my money: Mickey Lolich

I'd take Seaver on the list.

Off the list, Madison Bumgarner is 4-0 with a 0.25 ERA in his World Series career with a 5 inning save in a game 7 on the road.

Palmer was 8-3 in the postseason with a 2.61 ERA with 6 complete games. Remember the teams they were playing...

What made you pick those pitchers? I would take Sandy Koufax or Bob Gison.

Or Whitey Ford circa 1960-61. 32 IP 3-0 0.00 ERA .625 WHIP.

I was thinking Bob Gibson would be on there when I saw the title. But of those you picked for your list, I think I would have to say Steve Carlton. I still can't believe the Cardinals let him get away.

You'll always face good teams in the post season, although I would argue the 1966 Dodgers and 1969 Mets were not hard-hitting teams - they just had the best pitching in the NL.

If you want to choose an Oriole, McNally was better than Palmer in the WS: 4-2, which is the same, but much lower ERA, 2.34 to 3.20. Even Cuellar had a better WS ERA at 2.61.

Love both of those guys as well, but they weren’t pictured.

Palmer beat Koufax in Game 2; no one thought that would occur.

In Game 2, Willie Davis made 3 consecutive errors and Palmer was the recipient of 6 runs (3 of them unearned.)

But yes, Palmer shut out the Dodgers that year. So did Wally Bunker, Dave McNally, and Moe Drabowsky for 6 2/3 innings.

See...if you’re going to name Orioles I liked all of those pitchers. May of selected them as well if there was that choice. McNally and Cuellar were actually my favorites back in the day and not Palmer even though I did like him as an Oriole pitcher.

That would be the team that beat Palmer in Game 3 when he yielded 4 earned runs in 6 innings of work. To put that in perspective, during the 1969 regular season, the Mets were ninth out of 12 NL teams in runs scored.

:)

I like Palmer, and the fact he was generally better than Hunter year after year but didn't get the recognition he deserved. But I don't think he was a front-line money pitcher if you needed one game.

Good one.

Or Christy Mathewson who pitched 3 complete game shutouts in the 1905 WS. Career WS ERA of 0.97

Maybe the best all-time answer is Babe Ruth: 3-0 in the WS with an ERA of 0.87 (better than Matty.) Plus, he could do a little hitting to aid his cause. In the 2 years he pitched in the WS he yielded a total of 3 runs. He personally had 3 RBI in those games.

You can't make a bad decision with any of those guys.

But.......if I had my choice, I'd take 2000 Pedro. At his best.
