I notice that many Grover Cleveland Alexander cards in the 1920’s show a photo of him wearing a Philadelphia Phillies jersey. However, he played for Philly from 1911-1917. So why did they have a photo of him wearing a Philly jersey when he played for Chicago and St Louis in the 1920’s?

I have nothing helpful to share other than I have noticed this also. A good friend of mine is a Cubs fan and also is baffled by this fact. The w strip cards you can find him with the cubbies.

Then only thing I will say is you notice the same image used for many cards a lot of the time in this era. Whether it be copyright issues or just lack of usable action shots of Alexander I am curious to know why also. I know he battled alcoholism and issues after he can me back from the war. Definitely didn’t seem to be the most outgoing and maybe skipped photo ops ?

Many of the sets from the mid 1910's through the 1920's utilized old photos, and the E121 shown is an example of this outdated photo selection.
