View Full Version : Counterproductivity - Threads That Shouldn’t Be Bumped

Name a thread that you feel should never be bumped. If everyone agrees with you, we’ll all never see it again.

However, if your post results in a bump of the old thread you cite, you will be shunned by board members who agree with your opinion of the thread. Let the chips fall where they may.

Please, no profanity, religion, politics or rational or irrational expressions of anger or threats belong in this thread. Posting a random card with no related commentary is of course permitted.:)

If this was a contest, a list of posters, whose thread suggestion was never bumped, would be added to a list titled “Who Let The Dogs Out?”

However if adding a name to the list precipitated a bump of the thread that hadn’t been bumped, removing the name from the list would be necessary.

Hopefully you can understand why I’m not going there.

If this is all clear, I can add more rules at any time.

I vote for not bumping the twice per year "I received my REA Catalog" thread.

Inevitably followed by dozens of responses, all stating whether their Catalog has arrived yet, the date it came in, how incredibly thick it is, how they feel sorry for the mailman, and how good it smells.

Never really understood why these threads exist, much less go on forever. Sorry to Brian and the good folks at REA... I love the Catalogs as much as anyone, but the novelty wore off about a decade ago.

Also, the next PSA vs. SGC thread.

Wasn't there a thread where a member (Bruce D) was threatening to sue user Archive, which ended up being themselves?

It is an unimaginable tragedy, thirty-one young adults have died. It's a senseless shame. This is the reason that we play sports. It allows us to take out our agressions on the playing field. Can you imagine Barry Bonds with a gun, or Wilt Chamberlain with a gun. Thank God for sports.

Usually if I don't want a thread bumped, I just post to it and for whatever reason, the thread dies. Oops, sorry Frank :D

Ron,

The pattern you describe must have a profound negative impact on your self-esteem.

I would suggest posting more often - 10, 20, 30 or more times a day, as Adrian did. Ultimately Leon restricted him to 15 posts per day. If you emulate Adrian, perhaps Leon would recognize you similarly. This, no doubt, would boost your ego, legitimize your self worth and allow you to stand a a little taller.

Please seriously consider this advice.:D

......and best wishes;)

The "Fake", "Reprint", "Fake Reprint", "Genuine Reprint" or otherwise "Questionable?" Wagner T206 on Ebay threads. Don't see a need to call these out at this stage of the game. Pretty sure No One is getting fooled by these and if they are, probably deservedly so at this point.

That one should be permanently stickied to the top.

Maybe there should be a section for "classics"

Hooded coder being bounced for saying he could hack the board and Leon would never know was another great one.

I remember the Bruces. They made a lot of classic posts on the old board.

Wasn’t he the one who Leon put ‘Idiot’ in his username, then told him to hack the board and fix that?

That was a few years back. He was kind of a pain in the rump.

Any BS&T thread that is bumped for no other reason than it fell off the front page. The way I see, if my item didn't sell, it's because my price is too high, or I'm selling it in the wrong place.

This one bugs me almost as much as starting four threads at the same time to sell four separate items in the same category.

I miss the Adrian (I think?) thread with the lotion and the Honus Wagner. My favorite part is it being photoshopped in and in the mirror in the back you can totally see it's not in his hand :D:D a permanent gem.

Folks should alert me or another moderator if members post theirs item more than once in the same section at the same time. They can easily be combined. And yes, if something doesn't sell and falls off the front page it might be priced too high or there just isn't demand for it on the forum. At least lower the price a little if you do that. :)

Do you happen to mean like the 2 in the Ebay announcement section of the BST that are bumped every few days? By my calculation, one has been bumped on average roughly every 3.5 to 4 days over the past 2.5 years. If you really need to advertise that much, purchase a banner ad.

Why not?
Because you're crazy.

There are software mods for this board system that can be added.

Slippery--if a post is responded to, it won't go back to the top.

Auto lock after a certain time frame--If no one responds after a certain point, the thread auto locks.

Would be a simple solution.

agree, very bad. Way too many threads are brought back up when new or unknown information is made available such as revised checklists, new theories, new discoveries, etc.

Simple but bad.

The auto lock might be, but if an individual post emerges that needs it, it can be made slippery.
