Longtime Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman called his last game yesterday. He was on air for 46 years and his voice was in the background of my life as I grew up. Marty called it as he saw it and was no homer. I distinctly remember him referring to Shea Stadium as a "toilet" during a live broadcast, and tormenting former Reds owner Marge Schott by hosting Randy "Macho Man" Savage in the booth against her direct wishes. He was great. Thanks Marty!

As a lifelong Reds fan it is bittersweet to see Marty go. A wealth of knowledge, and a wonderful way of conveying it. I'm sure he'll be around from time to time, but he'll be sorely missed but greatly remembered.

On a clear summer night in Detroit in the mid 70's you could catch the Reds winning every game they played on, I think, 700 am with Marty Brennaman and the Cardinals somewhere up the dial with Jack Buck. And on occasion you might hear Harry Kalas doing the Phillies. And, of course, our own Ernie Harwell broadcasting for the Tigers on 760am. Each unique, but all really fun to listen to and, as it turns out, completely irreplaceable.

Never knew Marty replaced Al Michaels.
Odd, considering Michaels is only 35...

Loved listening to Marty when I lived in Cincinnati and Louisville. His fluid and smooth delivery was the perfect compliment to Joe Nuxhall's less than smooth and perfect delivery.
