Maz was a great team mate and a class act, not to mention a good ballplayer himself. Happy to recently acquire this only graded copy of his 1963 Bazooka box - it also holds another VERY unique distinction - it is the only time in any auction I can ever recall bidding in that I won a lot with my opening bid!! and in REA no less!

I started working on this about three years ago, knocked out everyone except Maz, then hit a wall because he didn't sign TTM. He did a signing recently through SCN, so I sent in and got him there. I didn't know it was his birthday yesterday, but anyone who beats the Yankees in the World Series always has a place in my collection.

One of the most beautiful signatures in all of baseball!

A bit late to the party but had to look through a lot of boxes of "Stuff" to locate the original mailing envelope. I agree with the observation offered up on the readability of his signature. This photo was offered as a mail in premium in early 1995. It was part of a group that included Don Larsen's perfect game and Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard Round The World". There was some sort of glitch in the promotion and many people did not receive what was promised. I was pushy and kept trying and finally received all 3 with an apology letter.
A good player and truly a gentleman. Thank you to the OP for starting the thread and those who put up such cool items and observations !!
Sincerely, Dennis

Buzz,

You're always welcome to join us at the Forbes Field wall on October 13. 😄

How do Maz's career stats stack up for HOF election? I must confess I was a bit surprised when he made it. Knew he was a first rate player with his moment of eternal fame in the 1960 WS but didn't think he would reach the rarified air of Cooperstown.

Probably the greatest fielding 2B ever. If Ozzie Smith can make it then certainly Maz could....
