View Full Version : Test - post a card you have owned a longtime

I put the over-under at 3 posts before some asshole hijacks this thread and starts spewing anger, throwing insults at someone, or mentions pwcc/psa antics.
I hope I am wrong.

This was one of the first cards I acquired when I got back into collecting, and I still own it. Probably won’t part with it for a long time.

Post a card you have owned a longtime and plan on owning a longtime still.

I've certainly been called an asshole before, but ain't gonna hijack anything here!

This killed me about 15 years ago to find a way to spend something around $1,600 for this card. Damn glad I figured it out, and don't plan on letting go of it!

I've got other Ruth cards now, but you never forget your first.

Wrong era and I just traded/sold them to a fellow member. Otherwise i owned them for 50 years and my older cousin cut them off the boxes.

Nice cards so far.

I love this card. Boldest ink I've seen on a Uzit.

Got this Wajo when I was a young teenager over 15 years ago. Was my second T206, but was the one that really got me hooked. I have many “cooler” cards. But this one will always be special for me

This is my first T206, and probably first prewar card. Bought either late 1977 or early 78. It's worse than it looks, the whole upper left corner is taped on as it was only hanging on by a little bit. But it's a Polar Bear, and was incredibly cheap...…….20 cents.

First prewar card I ever bought, maybe 1979 or so, it's what sent me down this crazy road I'm on. I still have it. They say you can't take it with you? I'm taking this one with me.

If this is a longevity contest, I'm probably the winner :)

I pulled these cards out of BOND BREAD packages in the Summer/Fall of 1947. I have the complete set 0f 48 cards, so the 1st one may be any one
of these shown here (or any one of the other 42 cards in this set). It was 72 years ago, and I cannot remember which BB player was the first.

Wow...That's one heck of a nice card.
Looks like you and I nicely bookend the entire price scale.
At least until Ted Z shows something he got from a 1 cent pack back in the day, which will totally bounce me from the cheap end spot.

Anyone buy a Wagner or something as their first card?

When I was in college my roommate showed me this card and explained what it was (my collecting experience had been limited to Garbage Pail Kids and 89 Score and Pro Set football cards as a kid), I was so fascinated and have been hooked ever since.

He actually gave it to me earlier this year when I was in Dallas for Leon's show, so have not had it long but it's the card that started it all for me.

Bought this from Mike Berkus at one of his Anaheim shows in the late 1970s. Slabbed many years later. They will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers.

This is my first old card:

I have had it for at least 45 years, through multiple moves, two major earthquakes, and everything else.

Would that make Net54 an enabler?:D

I know I got the T206 bug after I joined. Thankfully after about 100 or so of them I kicked the habit and sold them. Then like a junkie I had a small slip up but luckily it passed.

Is this ESP....or just mere coincidence....or what :)

Whatever....here you go, I paid a penny for this card in the Spring of 1949.

Pack pulled in 1959. This is the only card I still have from my youth. I was 7 and living on Long Island. A kid down the street had shown me their '58s but I never owned any back then. '59s were the first cards I owned. It's been through a lot but I cherish it.

I'm not sure how long I have "owned" this. My Grandpa used Polar Bear tobacco and this was his. We found it along with a Cy Young Portrait and a Joe Kelley (both Polar Bears) in his dresser drawer after he and Grandma passed.

We were NEVER allowed to go into his bedroom and we NEVER knew he had them.

We figured that since he only had daughters and too many grandkiddies, he just kept them rather than try to decide who he should give them to.

They were "given" to me with the proviso that they never be sold - they NEVER will be...

I've posted this before on a similar thread some years ago. Circa 1979...A 1933 Goudey Goslin port from a baseball magazine that had an ad page with a bunch of Goudey cards listed with prices. I was a whale for cards even back then, I think I paid $15 or so for it with lawnmower money. Next time I'll tell the time I had my aunt pay $20 for a vg/e 1959 Topps Early Wynn around 1981....Greg Morris cards just sold a similar one on ebay for $1.40

Bought in 2014, which is a long time for me since I seem to change my collecting focus every couple of years, outside a small handful core favorite cards.

This is one of only two vintage cards in my collection (and by far the oldest of the two) that I can trace directly to its original owner who pulled it from a pack. Actually it just had that pack-pull owner then me. Pretty rare in these days of cards changing hands so much and adds a cool dimension to it IMO.

At age 11 I bought the Koufax in 1974 from a neighbor with my allowance. I saved for three weeks to raise the $5. The Mathewson I picked up in 1981 at my first card show. I don't recall what I paid. I know it was more than the Koufax but as an unemployed high school senior it was obviously fairly cheap. I loved the artistry of both cards. They were mesmerizing. I remember being amazed how good thier condition was despite being vintage. The cellphone pics don't do them justice. I weny through great efforts to care for them. Although I was curious I never got them graded. I still get a thrill looking at them. They bring back some great memories.

My dad gave me this card in 1979 or 1980 when I started collecting. We found it in a book of his when we searched the grandparents' house for his shoebox of cards (which apparently hit the burn pile in the 60's). It's the one card I'll never get rid of.

I bought this Babe Ruth back in 1980 or 1981 for $20.00 at Columbus Flea Market in NJ. There were two brothers selling off their collection and would save certain cards for my Dad and me to purchase and this is one is part of the few we purchased. We would see them almost every Sunday morning at the Flea Market
